L.B. Danzler has been a bit of a disappointment, albeit with some injuries, but he does deserve props for what he does well.

He's a reclamation project. Live-arm type with very spotty control who came up in the White Sox organization and had a cup of coffee with the big club in 2010. Easily posting the best numbers of his career, but he's only a few months removed from absolutely imploding in the Dodgers system...bullpen arms sometimes figure out late, but at age 27 he'll need a longer track record of control to get consideration at the big league level.

Danny Barnes gives up 5 runs in one inning of D-Jays 10-9 win. That's how you earn the hold.

Ho hum... I want to know what happened in his first at bat that stopped the fly ball from clearing the fences.

Seriously though, the kid has a chance to be really good, that much is becoming apparent.

Anthony Gose with the golden sombrero tonight in Buffalo. It's like he pouts every time he's sent down.

Dont really follow the minor league guys, but are they rushing him?

Norris seemed like an early call up too, but he's been sharp since moving to triple A.

Guessing they want to get a look at Pompey in AAA before the season ends. It was quite likely that he'd start next season there, but I'd be pretty surprised if they were thinking of bringing him up in September (even though he'll need to go on the 40-man in the off-season to steer clear of the Rule 5 draft). Looks to me like they're setting him up as an all-goes-well June/July call-up next year...could potentially see them handing him the starting job in CF when Rasmus walks, but I wouldn't exactly recommend it. Personally, I'd like him to get the better part of a year in at AAA unless he's utterly overkill at the level.

As for Norris, I dunno. I think that burning an option year/40-man spot so that he can pitch in the bullpen in an increasingly-meaningless September would be utterly idiotic, whether they agree remains to be seen. He'll have a shot at a rotation spot out of spring, but ideally he'd get 5-7 starts in Buffalo before getting considered.

Rushing him? His numbers are good, his power is increasing, his tools are undeniable. More likely the Jays are becoming a little less conservative, perhaps because of Norris, Sanchez, etc. I'm sure they are hoping Pompey plays well enough for a mid-2015 promotion.

If the Jays lose Melky or have to trade Jose or Edwin, Next season is going to be about selling hope, not wins.

More curious timing on the promotion, coming only one day after his return from injury.

It could be a job saving attempt by AA, but assuming Norris and Pompey remain in AAa for the remainder of this season and beginning of next (rather than being Sept call ups), I like it. Good players need to be promoted quickly. These guys are doing well and have the tools to be very good. If they look too good for whatever level they are in, and have the peripherals to back it up, then promote them.

But yeah, if this leads to a Sept call up or him being starting CF next season, then it would be a mistake. He should get at least half a season in AAA. Same with Norris, though he might be a little more ready.

**** it. Call them all up. Is there really that much to lose? Let's say they both fall flat on their face in September. Is that really a career killer?

My sincere hope is that we don't ruin Pompey the way the Marlins ruined Marisnick. The latter was called up way, way too soon, and predictably fell flat on his face. He hasn't been the same since, even in the minors.

Realistically I don't know enough about Pompey to assess whether this is a good move or not, but for most guys barely more than 100 plate appearances at AA isn't enough. But as others have said - including me - he isn't "most guys", at least when it comes to his tools and mindset.

Edit: Marisnick is actually showing signs of life in Houston in a SSS.

Actually, since being traded to Houston, Jake has been doing a lot better. He's playing better than our own CF.

Glad to see Pompey on the up and up. Might go check out a Bisons game next time Norris pitches(if he's their for more then 1 start).

I have a feeling this thread is going to get a lot busier….which I had hoped wouldn't happen. At least not for the Jays doing their Leafs impression. Toronto sports teams are a joke.

To me the biggest indicator for hitting prospects is BB:K. Power can develop, but if a player has plate discipline and can make contact, that's usually a good sign. Pompey is doing well in that area, nevermind his plus speed and defense. Still, I hope he spends half a season in AAA before (best case) taking over in CF mid-2015.

I wanted this to be right, since I liked Marisnick as a prospect, but nope.

Since Marisnick debuted with the Astros on August 1st, he has an OPS of .653 (.270/.288/.365), versus a .718 OPS (.250/.318/.400) for Rasmus over the same period. He's been clearly worse than Rasmus over that time. He may be doing better than with the fish, but it was almost impossible not to be. He is still terrible.
