Guess our scouts know their talent. A lot of baseball pundits panned this pick when the Jays drafted him.

Im really curious about what led to his non-signing. It seemed as if AA was warning fans days in advance not to expect a signing. Was it money all along? It doesn't seem to have been an air-tight college commitment, considering he's dropping out already.

As he missed a bit of time, probably keeping him in Dunedin to get the extra reps as they're in the playoffs.

Hit another homer tonight, his 12. Emilio Guerrero had two, 8 and 9

Believe that it was always money. Beede was a tight college commit, but Bickford put out a crazy-high bonus demand prior to the draft, and then stuck with it. We thought there was a good chance to move him off the number, there wasn't.

Dalton Pompey, who rocketed from Dunedin (A-Adv) all the way up to Buffalo (AAA) this year, will be one of the Blue Jays prospects to play fall. Joining Pompey will be Jon Berti and Dwight Smith, Jr. with more players to be announced.

Brandon Morrow with a clean inning for the D-Jays tonight. Get him up in the bullpen.

Barreto's been in a bit of a slump by his standards; fair number of singles, but no XBH in seven games, quite a few strikeouts and very few walks. Broke out of it tonight with a HR, currently 3 for 4.

Probably the highlight of the night in the farm system: In Lansing, the home plate ump barfed on the Lugnuts' catcher, Daniel Klein. Didn't apologize either.

SRF with a pretty good outing.

3 IP/4H/ 2ER/ 0 BB/6 K

The four hits he gave up were back to back to back to back singles in his third and final inning.

Bisons doing their best impression of an audition for a September audition.

Gose and Jimenez each have a double and a homer.

Pompey has a couple of hits and a walk.

Graveman has seven (?!) strikeouts through four, all but one being of the swinging variety.

31st round pick OF Dave Pepe heating up lately at GCL. Now hitting .292/.427/.354 ... Anything there or does him being 22 years old make him more or less destined for org filler?

14th round pick 22 year old Chase Mallard had another good outing for Vancouver: 5.2 IP, 4H, 1ER, 7K, 2BB.

15th rounder McBroom went 0/4 today but sports a pretty good slash at Vancouver: .309/.354/.512

Perhaps something from the depth rounds will break through as a legitimate prospect.

Max Pentacost apparently has a wrist injury of some kind which is why he isn't playing anywhere right now.

He's apparently wearing a brace on it, there's a photo of him with his wife/GF. Looks like it might be tendonitis.

With a name like McBroom, he needs to get to the majors

I'm pretty sure DrHalladay only included guys with awesome names in this report on purpose.

Chase Mallard... Ryan McBroom... Dave Pepe... surely at least one of these guys will make it!

Edit: How could he omit Roemen Fields :)
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Some end of regular season stuff.

Dunedin wrapped up with a win, LB Danzler 2-4 with a homer. He basically missed the first half of the FSL season, then started slowly as one might expect, but he was picking it up in August. His August slash prior to today was .262/.333/.477/.810. Mitch Nay went 2-4 and got his first FSL RBI.

And some guy for the other team played all nine positions, I guess in the FSL that passes for Fan Appreciation Day entertainment.

The other playoff bound team in the system is Vancouver, which pulled off a triple steal as part of their final regular season game. Also, Matt Smoral threw five innings. A bit rocky at first, he gave up a pair of runs in the first, a bit wild, but when he settled down nicely. 5IP, 3H, 2R/2ER/ 5BB, 5K. Lowered his ERA to 2.70.

Buffalo is toast, but Daniel Norris threw two innings of hitless relief with a walk and 3K mad Dalton Pompey was 2-4 with a doubt, RBI, SB. He finished with a .319 average at AAA. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Pompey has to be added to the 40-man roster this winter.

Yes he does. Which is why if we're talking names like Norris/Graveman as call up's, I think Pompey makes more sense than either of those guys. Obviously he should start the year back at Buffalo and get at minimum half a year there, but as a somewhat reward for the season he's had, a September call up as a pinch runner/defensive replacement wouldn't be the worst idea since we need to add him to the 40 man anyway.

He's got another four hits and a pair doubles today in the season finale. What a year for the kid.

He also almost got Mastroianni killed when he tried to stretch his fourth hit into a third double (score was 8-1 at the time) and apparently Mastro got drilled up and in on the next pitch.

Agreed, he just needs a bit more seasoning at the AAA level and he's likely ready, perhaps middle of next season. Rowdy Tellez also going out in style, 3-3, including a homer for a .357 average in his limited time in the MWL. Seems possible he starts next season at Dunedin.

I'd expect him to start in Lansing; Dunedin would be a pretty aggressive promotion for a guy who'll just be hitting 20, with only ~60 PAs above rookie ball.

And there's really no need for it. With Nay and Dean starting there, and Dantzler not exactly looking ready for NH, it's already going to be crowded.

I'd like to see us aggressively move guys during the season when performance merits it, like we did with Norris, Pompey and Graveman, especially when they're in A ball, to get them on track to get more time at AA/AAA, but there's no need to create unnecessary logjams from the start.
