Actually in that 2010 draft alone, Karsten Whitson turned down 2.1 million as the ninth pick to the Padres and was just redrafted in the 11th round this year by Boston and Dylan Covey who was drafted 14th by the Brewers, who compared favourably to Matt Harvey at the time if I recall correctly and he turned down 1.6 million and was taken in the 4th round last year to Oakland and got a $370 000 bonus. The Brewers also found that he had type 1 diabetes.

The astros made a hell of a deal for Brady Aiken for underslot! , and then gave like 1.5 million to a high school arm ..

Well, I'd expect that deal got done long before they picked him and is a large part of the reason why they picked him.

BTW, easy site for the first 5 rounds leaguewide link:

Just want to know if the Jays signed the first 2 picks and when is the last day to do so?

was looking on twitter today to try and find new info on how the contract talks were going with our first round picks and Hoffman retweeted a tweet from hi gf saying "last dinner before he leaves" so this may mean a contract announcement may be coming in the next few days.

Leaves for where? A spa? He surely can't pitch. Possibility they want their own doctors to validate pre-draft info they collected on his surgery. Callis feels Jays will get both firsts to sign "later than sooner", presumably meaning closer to the July 18 deadline. Not sure why we have to wait on Pentacost. Of the top 13 picks, only three aren't signed. One of them, Carlos Rodon, might be negotiating hard for overslot, but unsure of why Pentacost isn't signed and possibly on a roster, gaining coaching and experience. Read a piece this morning that four NC State players include Trea Turner are playing already. Turner is with Eugene in the NW league.

Here's Callis' latest bonus list for the top 10 picks - Jays seem to be at or slightly below slot, cumulatively, with only the firsts and Zehner (7th round) to sign.

We're not signing either Hoffman, or Pentecost...are we?

AA now uses the 1st round to troll Jays fans, and players he doesn't like.

Alex must really not trust our player development by choosing to rather keep his picks on layaway.

Jokes aside, I can't understand why this is taking so long.

Ya., but he was just pitching in the College World Series this week. So it's not like he could sign.

Where should they be looking to start Pentacost? Vancouver? Lansing?

I'm not going to lie, based on history from recent drafts, I was pretty nervous this wouldn't get done.

Call it the conspiratorial way my mind thinks, but with the Yankees supposedly ready to do a blitzkrieg on international signings today, did the Jays time the Hoffman/Pentacost signing to hide their comparatively small success in signing this year's internationals?

For a little more on the signings:

Kind of crazy that we're generally excited about this as you'd think signing your first rounders is basically par for the course for any competent organization. But I'll take it!

Seriously? About 1% of the fanbase knows what July 2nd IFA day even is or what its implications are. Even on here, where we take this a bit more serious than most, I started the IFA thread ~12 days ago and it has amassed a whopping 10 posts...5 of which were by me LMFAO.

To put it bluntly, no, this timing has nothing to do with IFA day. We are set to sign one of the top talents for ~$1.5 million and another for ~$700K+
