He was only 22 years old.

RIP

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras died in a car accident while driving in the Dominican Republic with his girlfriend, his family and agent have confirmed.

Taveras was reportedly driving the car at the time of the crash. He was 22.

From MLB.com:

"Obviously, we have deep condolences to his family," Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said. "We are still waiting for more details before issuing a full statement."

The pictures of his car are awful looking :noway: Not surprising neither Oscar or GF survived that terrible crash.

Rest in piece x2 :(

The Cardinals have had some bad luck with active players dying: Darryl Kile, Josh Hancock, and now Tavares.

You were not the only one. Incredibly tragic and a very sad day to lose such a promising talent. Oscar had a Canadian passport as well, and so there was talk of him one day playing for Canada possibly in the future. May God Bless his soul.

Have there been any updates on what exactly happened? Was it a single vehicle accident? High speed and lost control? Alcohol or drugs involved?

Am I missing something?

Edit - Nevermind, the mobile app has serious issues with Twitter. But, I figured this was the case. These accidents aren't just random. Young guy, on top of the world, makes a terrible decision and kills someone else in the process. I'm sure it won't change the view people have of him because he died, but the gf's family probably doesn't share that sentiment.
