I really like Hendriks out of the pen, but who is the next best SP option if Norris had to be replaced? Jenkins? It's really, really bad. Hendriks is probably the best option.
At least Estrada will be put in the rotation after today, hopefully. He should have won the spot out of ST. However, if they feel Norris doesn't have the command to be in the Majors yet (and he probably doesn't), then we're in trouble. Unless Jenkins continues his Houdini act and keeps putting up deceivingly good ERA's in the Majors.
Your assuming the prevailing logic on this board is present in the Blue Jays' manager's office.
What is the timeline on Doubront anyway?
After Stroman went down, I don't think logic exists in the Jays front office. However, I do think they will put Estrada in the rotation. They didn't pay him $4M to be a long reliever. They wanted Sanchez in the pen and Estrada in the rotation but Stroman got hurt. It's only a matter of time before they make that switch. Norris is a different issue. He does not look MLB ready so far, but that's to be expected from someone his age who really only broke out last year. A bit more time in the minors would be fine for him and possibly add that extra year of control. The issue is no one is there to replace him. I'd have to see Doubront and Santana pitch before assuming they will come in and contribute.
Pretty much, I think the writing is on the wall though. They have the ability to replace one of their starters at the moment and Sanchez is at least capable of getting you 5 innings an outing a bit more often than Norris. Definitely the lesser of two evils at the moment.
