What happens if Toronto and NY end the season in a tie. I think they play a 1 game series. Is that correct? And, if so, how is the home team determined.

yes, they play a "1 game series". winner of the regular season head-to-head match-up (which the jays currently lead 8-4 with 7 games left) would have home field.
