Matt Boyd, LHP
Boyd starts against a Blue Jays offense that his hitting .284 with a league-high .829 OPS against left-handed pitching. He gave up three runs on five hits over six innings against Texas last Sunday at home.
VS
R.A. Dickey, RHP
Dickey surrendered five runs in the first inning of his last start against the Angels, but he didn't allow another one over six innings. That was enough to pick up the victory.
Buck Farmer, RHP
Farmer took a no-hit bid into the fifth inning and a shutout bid into the sixth inning Monday at Cincinnati but ran out of gas in a hurry with two home runs in three batters. Still, it was the best outing in his brief career.
VS
Drew Hutchison, RHP
Hutchison will make his return to the rotation following a brief one-stint start in the Minors. Toronto temporarily went with a four-man rotation because of three off-days in the span of eight days, but the plan all along was for Hutchison to return.
Alfredo Simon, RHP
Five days after throwing a one-hit shutout of the Rangers, Simon gave up three runs on wild pitches, walked four batters and hit another in 4 1/3 innings against the Angels. The Tigers would gladly take something in between.
VS
Mark Buehrle, LHP
Buehrle has been reliable, but he has hit a bump lately. Over his last two starts, he has surrendered nine runs over 10 innings. In his last start, vs. the Rangers, his velocity was down, but more important, his pinpoint command wasn't there.
