Our hitters just don't want it enough.

I can't help but wonder if Bautista and Encarnacion are more swing happy in those situations because they're trying to up their RBI totals.

I disagree. Letting there best player beat us was bad managing. I get the whole winning run rhetoric, but we also would have been 1 pitch away from ending the game and getting the W. The guy on deck was 0 fer and about as slow a player as you can find in the league. Who cares what his career numbers are... Tulo is a career .300 hitter and we'd all pitch to him. Edwin has 9 grand slams and Detroit managed to IBB donaldson to get to him... I can't even fathom the scenario wherein we A) pitched to Miggy and B) threw him 4 straight fastballs for strikes... This was a bad loss all around.

As good as Miggy is, it wasn't even a consideration for me. That's how much putting a runner on in that spot hurts your chances of winning the game. The fact that it was the guy leading the league in hitting behind him makes it even easier.

Yep.

But also our pen is atrocious.

They got their run on a slow roller, a walk that was actually a strikeout, a bunt, and a bouncer over the 3rd baseman's head. Pretty sure this one wasn't on Biagini.

Our bp is not atrocious is your point then?

Well it's not good overall, but that was hardly the story this game.

Baseball isn't a sport like football where you can see a running back didn't run hard enough on 4th and 2 or where a WR gets alligator arms going over the middle knowing he's going to have to absorb a big hit. You can't just want it more the way you can in other sports.

I'm not saying that occasionally you don't see players that are not taking a smart approach to an at bat that fits the time and score of the game. I am saying that it's basically never a matter of not wanting it. These guys have nothing to fear or lose the way athletes in other sports do. It's a sport where you fail much more than you succeed and unfortunately for us that's what happened tonight.

That one stings, but in reality scoring 2 runs in 2 games typically doesn't yield a lot of wins. Hope for a salvage game today.

On the bright side, Aaron Sanchez....wow. I'm blown away with how good he's been.

Yeah it's quite amazing that he went from the bullpen to the rotation and increased his K% so dramatically. And still managed to maintain his GB%. Very impressive.

Could have used any of these runs yesterday instead of on a day where Dickey will likely give them all back up anyway.

Gibby must have given a very rousing speech before today's game.
