Blue Jays extend contracts of coaching staff through 2019
Why would they bring back Jacoby? The Jays have never had a great average during his time with the Jays, and neither did the Reds when he was their hitting coach.

Re: Blue Jays extend contracts of coaching staff through 2019
TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are extending the contracts of their coaching staff to align them with the tenure of manager John Gibbons, industry sources told Sportsnet.
The deals for pitching coach Pete Walker, bullpen coach Dane Johnson, hitting coach Brook Jacoby, first-base coach Tim Leiper and third base coach Luis Rivera run through the 2019 season, with club options on 2020. Gibbons agreed to an extension covering the same time period back in March.
Quality control coach Derek Shelton received a deal for the same term when he was hired in December, while bench coach DeMarlo Hale opted to continue going year-to-year with his contract.
The extensions maintain stability in a staff that’s been together through the two post-season runs in 2015 and ‘16, and underlines the club’s confidence in the group, as the deals were negotiated after the Blue Jays opened the season poorly.

Contingent on whether or not they force him to be their full-time replay room liaison again next season. They got him tethered 6 inches from that damn phone at all times. I can imagine him thinking "this isn't what I signed up for..."

I would hate to think that the batting coach is being judged primarily by the overall team batting average.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.

Why do people want gibby gone? Alot of people are blaming the failure of this team on him but I dont understand that. The pitching woes and the batting woes cannot be on his shoulders unless some fans expect Gibby to bat and pitch for them.
He made some odd decisions here and there but that shouldnt mean hes a bad manager. Unless someone can tell me why they would like gibby out of the picture

Poor performance and poor management are not mutually exclusive. It can be both. I haven't paid to much attention to Gibby's management this year because there are much more important things to worry about, but it's possible he's been just as bad this year as he has been in the past.
As far as bad decisions, off the top of my head, last night with two men on base in the 7th inning of a 1 run game, Gibby used our 4th-best healthy reliever, Dominic Leone, against #2 hitter Dustin Pedroia, leaving Barnes, Tepera and Osuna in the bullpen. Leone gave up a game-tying double off the wall but was saved by Mookie running through the stop sign at third base and barely being tagged out at the plate. Osuna and Tepera each pitched with the bases empty later in the game. Then the next inning he pinch-ran for Smoak who was at 3B with nobody out while Morales was on 1B. With nobody out in the 8th inning of a tie game, you don't remove one of your best hitters that is 90' away from the plate for a marginal speed improvement. Especially not with possibly the slowest runner in the world standing on first base. It didn't end up hurting us because Smoak's spot in the lineup was left in the on-deck circle in the 9th inning and it didn't go to extras, but it's about process not results. Both of those decisions were bad, albeit not game-changing mistakes in judgment, from just the past 24 hours.

Carbon copy tonight. Leone comes in with a man on base in the 7th and gives up a game tying double to Pedroia. Barnes and Osuna again came on later in the game with the bases empty. And again, Osuna faces the bottom of the Red Sox order while Leone faced the top of the order. Nothing like letting the same hitters face the same relievers two nights in a row, while simultaneously using suboptimal pitchers in high leverage situations.

Is this the right manager and coaches for a rebuild? If this team goes younger, it might be an idea to give the reins to either a solid teacher or to a young guy whose energy matches that of the players. Gibby is not a bad guy for a veteran team, but clearly he's going to be dealing with a different type of player shortly.
