Jusuf Nurkic

Post#1 » by donaldduck » Mon Jul 21, 2014 3:22 pm

I'm hearing high hopes for the 19 year old out of Bosnia. He has a wide base and a soft touch around the rim. I took a look at a few YouTube videos and he's a big boy who can provide a quality inside game. Obviously he has a lot of growing up to do but does anyone else see a future starter or a rotation guy out of Nurkic? I think with Coach Shaw at the helm he could be a 14-8 type of center.

Thoughts? Concerns?

First, the kid is only 19 and just started playing 4-5 years ago, plenty of room to grow that BB IQ. Also, he's young enough to learn new techniques and adjust accordingly. Would love to get a legitimate big man's coack in here, someone like Ewing to teach our guys positioning, footwork, etc. I can see this guy getting into the 17-20pt range with 8-12 rpg. Read he's also a decent passer, we see about that, it's a skill that could pay great dividends for us if true.

I posted on the draft thread a video from the u20 finals b division from a couple days ago where he scored 34 pts. He is still raw and still has a lot of learning ahead of him, but he has a lot of potential

If we could et 1/2 that production from Nurkic on a consistent basis, I'd be ecstatic !

My dream is to have Nurkic at PF and Mozzy at C someday. The pure size and intimidation factor would be so awesome.

Those two in the paint with the outside shooting and attacking ability of Ty/AA/Gallo would be a thing of beauty. And they're all good athletes, so we'd be back to running teams right out of the gym. Not to mention Nate, Harris, Chandler, Faried, and McGee.

Yeah I've always been intrigued by our size. Ever since the Melo trade, we've had a really tall team in general but Karl was always too obsessed with small ball to utilize it. It sounded like Shaw was planning on testing out some big lineups last year (ie. Chandler at SG), but all the injuries prevented that from ever happening.

A couple days ago Jusuf joined the Bosnian senior national team and yesterday he had another good game against Sweden. Here are the stats:

Nurkic will skip Eurobasket qualifiers for Bosnia this summer because of "injury and fatigue".Thing is most people believe he was advised not to participate and risk injury so he can be ready for Nuggets training camp.

Mark Deeks posted on the 23rd that we apparently signed Nurkic. Haven't seen that or the signing of Erick Green anywhere else but if true, its good news.

Good read, sounds like what the Dr Shaw has ordered, a guy with good offensive-minded post skills. Doesn't say too much about his defense, but I can't see that being a huge problem. Big learning curve over the next two years.

Saw JuNu is "down" to 290lbs, what a monster of a rookie !! At this point, is he making McGee sweat a little bit ??? We have to re-establish McGee's value (if that's possible) but I think we're see that Nurkic will develop a bit faster than we originall thought !! Woo Hoo !!!

He looks great.

I wonder if anyone could be talked into taking McGee's contract.

This works on Real GM, Trade ID #6514869, with the Lakers:

Nuggets Out
JaVale McGee

Nuggets In
Steve Nash
Robert Sacre

Cap trade.

Do you guys think that Nurkic will cut into Mozgov's minutes this year?

Doubt it, Mozgov has pretty much cemented himself as the starting center.

If he cuts into anyones minutes it's McGee's.

Nurkic has looked good and showed thats hes ready to play this season, but lets not forget that last time mcgee played a full season, he lead the leagues in dunks despite coming off the bench for 15mpg. Rather than trading mcgee and his contract away, i think we should just enjoy the luxury of having 3 multi-talented centers. Mcgee has gained weight since he last played so lets wait and see what mcgee is bringing to the table. one of the reasons the nuggets won 57games 2 seasons ago was because they has center depth. mcgee mozzy and doufos(koufos). all we did is replace koufos with a younger, bigger, more skilled center. certain games will be more in mcgee favor when you can just lob it over teams heads and other games nurkics back to the basket game are going to be more needed.

nuggets start the season 5-0
