fair or foul?

Fair.

Mariners never gave him a chance to stay. they were going all in on ARod at the time and didn't offer him a contract he deserved. in the end the Mariners lost ARod to Texas anyway. the Seattle Nintendos always find a way to screw the pooch. when the fossil CEO died i was hoping for some changes but their budget never grew despite the projected increase in revenue of new TV deal. signing Cano for that long term of a deal is just as idiotic as the Mets signing Beltran after he posted 1.500 OPS with 8 HRs in just two series with the Astros for that 120 million dollar deal which at the time was one of the biggest ever for an outfielder. at least Cano's deal breaks down to 24 million per year, which is actually a smaller contract if you adjust for inflation than the latter half of Beltran's Met's deal, getting paid just about 20 per season when W was leaving the white house.

The Giants got my guy Aoki, he fit Hart's philosophy perfectly, I really thought the Braves had a chance for him.

Braves got some nice prospects from the Gattis trade (2 pitchers and a 3B). We weren't gonna do anything the next two years anyway, but we're looking scarier for 2017. I like what Hart's done blowing up this team and revamping the farm system.

I love the Aoki deal on its own, but it seems to mark the end of an awfully disappointing, perhaps underwhelming, offseason for Sabean.

He's succeeded with this formula before though, so I can't really doubt the guy.

Yeah, the sad thing is, our rotation limped for 2 months and if it wasn't for Bum, we're out in Pittsburg and yet we did nothing to improve it. In fact, we actually lost a player from it. I figured we would do nothing to improve the OF, so Aoki is nice and better than Blanco to lead off if Pagan is out again, but in terms of a starter in the rotation....we did nothing.

Plus, we basically added Cain and Pagan to the World Series team.

This is the Giants thread, right?

Added Tim Hudson, who carried our rotation in the first half until he got hurt and broke down and added Michael Morse, who's HR tied game 5 of the NLCS and brought a HR threat to our lineup.

Nats would have to trade two good starters just to clear space to do that, though

Scherzer will receive $210MM for seven years of work, but the contract has an unusual structure, with Scherzer receiving $15MM per season for the next 14 years, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. That means the Nationals will be paying Scherzer through 2028

What an interesting deal.

I'd love to get Zimmerman on the Giants but I figure he's going to ask for a similar deal very soon

You'd imagine Tanner Roark will be on the move, although he could stick around in the bullpen.

Man, that is insane. The funny thing is, the Nationals were supposed to have an "elite" staff last year too, but it didn't help them much once October rolled around. No guarantees.

Cubs trade Valbuena and Straily for Dexter Fowler.

Solid move. Clears 3rd for Bryant, deals from IF surplus for sorely needed OF.
