2014 MLB Regular Season General Thread

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Sat Mar 22, 2014 6:39 pm

The regular season officially started in the wee hours of the morning in Sydney, Australia.

Clayton Kershaw and the LA Dodgers beat the D-Backs, 3-1. Kershaw looked predictably good. Wade Miley was decent, but got tagged for a few runs early. Yaisel Puig struggled, striking out three times in five at-bats and only saw 16 pitches. They'll play again at 10pm eastern, when Hyun-Jin Ryu and Trevor Cahill face-off.

Official Opening Day weekend isn't until March 30-April 1.

Braves announce that Julio Teheran will be the opening day starter. Man, injuries have killed us and season hasn't even started: Minor would be the starter normally but he's out till mid-April thanks to an operation on his groin, Medlen would be next in line but he just had Tommy John, then it would be Beachy but he also had Tommy John, and Santana won't be ready till Mid-April as well. I hate that we play the Nats right away (games 4, 5, 6) this year.

Season shouldn't start until actual Opening Day. This start the season for two teams one week before the rest is just silly.

Nats need to start hot and step on the Braves throats early. Playing them early will be a nice start but it'll suck that we can't throw Stras/Gonzalez/Zimmermann at them.

I feel confident he'll pitch fine as long as we provide him with some run support.
I am looking forward to the season.

Just a couple more hours to go till the Nats road to the World Series begins in Citi Field, aka Nats Park North.

Opening Day Lineup has me puzzled though. Ramos batting 4th? Harper 5th? I love Ramos but I don't know about having him hit clean up, and I'd prefer Harps hit 3rd since he will be our best hitter.

Bryce Harper took a knee to the head. Not even one game into the season and he's already had his first concussion test.

Nats pulled one out. Stras struggled early before dominating innings 3-6. Looks like last year where he starts off slow and then heats up. Hopefully he can figure out how to pitch in the first inning.

Offense blew up, but potentially losing Wilson Ramos to a broken hand hurts. We have enough depth to take the hit though.

Gotta love the Mets bullpen LOL.

Braves couldn't hit anything, but it was nice seeing the new replay system have a positive effect already.

Bats are working tonight!! 3 HRs including 2 by Freddie Freeman, Alex Wood put in work with 7 IP and 1 ER (a HR to lead off the game.) Just wish we can find a way to manufacture some runs as the season progresses instead of just relying on the long ball.

Matt Garza and Aaron Harang in a duel right now. Both throwing no-nos going into the seventh.

I love baseball so much more now that I'm putting money on it.

Then I hate it again because I lose money.

Brandon Belt just homered for the third time series. Currently on pace to break the single season record.

Did anyone here witness that horrific umpiring display by Sean Barber last night in the Mariners-A's game?

I've been watching baseball since 1993. It was the worst balls and strikes called game I have ever seen. 100% truth.

Rookie umpire needs a new career.

McGowan and Tanaka will pitch tonight. First career start vs. first start in a long time

Braves beat the Nats!!! David Hale goes 5 scoreless innings and we squeak by with a 2-1 win. This temporary starting pitching lineup has done great the first time through: Teheran, Wood, Harang, and Hale have combined to give up 1 Earned Run in these first four games.

Andrew Miller looks awful every time I watch him pitch. He has no control of his lower half. I guess he is 'effectively' wild, but it would drive me crazy if I was a teammate or fan of the Red Sox.
