The ruling basically told the players they are responsible for giving Goodell his powers in the last CBA and it's their own damn fault for being so stupid. Interesting to watch the NFLPA try to squirrel out of this one.

First they tried to play the guilt card with Brady. When that clearly didnt work they played the "Goodell has all the power" angle. The only circumstantial evidence they had was that he "destroyed his phone", even though he answered all of Wells' questions and was told that Wells no longer needed his phone. He then destroys it, only for the league to come back and frame it in such a way where everyone (myself included) thought he had something to hide, until reading the actual transcripts that this entire thing was and still is a witch hunt. The league moved its goal posts, made up lies..and the science by many actual scientists all support the notion that Brady and the Pats did nothing with the footballs. To this day, people dont realize that even the Colts footballs that night were also underinflated (thanks to logic/physics called PSI, its like on a cold day your car tires will seem 'deflated'). Any truly innocent man would fight for his innocence until the end, and I'm glad Brady's doing that, win or lose (it may be heard back by the entire 2nd circuit, or taken to the supreme court).

At this point, even if a video surfaced of Tom Brady deflating the footballs with his own two hands while stomping on an 8.5x11 glossy of Roger Goodell, this is just making the NFL look like dicks. When you get to the root of this, the offense itself is worth maybe a fine in the neighborhood of 10-50k. Really, all this could have been avoided if the NFL wasn't dumb enough to trust teams not to tamper with the balls after checking them. Shouldn't the officiating crew be holding them and not the respective teams? Basically, the league has just sent the message to me that something like half a pound of air pressure is as serious of an offense as being named in a second rape allegation or twice as bad as knocking your fiancee out cold until half the country sees it on video. The fact that this punishment will come to pass almost two years after the alleged incident and having to win a court appeal to enact it just makes it all the more petty and rotten.

They didn't say anything about him being guilty, they basically just said that Goodell can punish him however he wants, because that's what the CBA allows.
