The best team to not win a superbowl?

Post#1 » by OneCent » Thu Apr 5, 2007 12:44 am

In recent years we've seen teams that were so good in the regular season not even make it to the Superbowl, and a few make it and then blow it. Teams like last year's Chargers(14-2), the 2005 Colts(14-2), the 2001 Rams(14-2), and the 1998 vikings (15-1). Who do you think was the biggest disappointment when they didn't win it all?

Those Vikings, easily. They were on a mission. I still cringe at the idea of Gary Anderson not missing a FG all year and then, in the dying seconds of the NFC Final... :banghead:

Those Falcons were good but come on, no one had anything on the 15-1 Vikes.

HAHA I have that game on DVD. Vikings totally thought they'd cruise to the SB and then pow! I really liked the Falcs RB. Too bad all those carries that season ended him. Watch out, LJ.

I think the Bills team of the Early 90s were some of the better teams in the Modern Era to lose in the Superbowl...
Especially the 1990 version...

As well, I think people seriously underrated the 1999 Jaguars... the 1999 Titans were their only kryptonite, but I remember them absolutely stream-rolling over almost everyone they faced.

1983 Redskins. Went 14-2, lost only two games and both by only 1 point. Heavy favorites to beat the Oakland Raiders in the SB but got destroyed by Marcus Allen.

That Jaguars team was the one that beat the Dolphins 62-7, right?

BBJ, that Niners team is like the one that won it all in '94/'95 but not quite as good. Considering the '94/'95 Niners are the best team I've seen in my lifetime, you may just have a case there.

Yup. That was the one that crushed Dan Marino's hopes and dreams of getting a Superbowl in his last season.

Depends how far you go back. In the last decade, its easily the Eagles, no question.

I'd have to agree with the Bills teams those were great teams. Also the 98 Vikes come to mind.

Some of the Packer teams in the 90's, '95 on were damn good. The team that lost to the Denver Broncos could have gone down as one of the best in history had they sealed the deal.

Eagles?...

I'd say in the last Decade, there were at least three teams better than the Eagles that did not win the Superbowl:

99 Jaguars
01 Rams
98 Vikings

I think he meant the Eagles as a whole, over the last few years, not just 1 season.

I would say the Vikings 15-1 team.

There have been teams much more dominant than the 00-04 Eagles. There not one of the best teams to never win.

In the recent years, its hands down 06 Chargers. They should have won the SB last year.
