Our Next Big FA Signing

Post#1 » by Piston Pete » Fri Jan 20, 2012 3:47 pm

Our next big FA signing will come next offseason, and it will be 32 YEAR OLD Lebonese player, Fadi al-Khatib.

http://www.dailystar.com.lb/Sports/Bask ... z1k0ty5D73

Is Fadi al-Khatib NBA material? It's a question that has been continuously asked by basketball fans on the internet, considering his huge contribution to the success of the Lebanese national team over the past 10 years.

The answer to the question has come from the Detroit Pistons, who have recently been exchanging emails with Fadi, as “The Tiger” confirmed to The Daily Star in a phone call. A contract may be signed as early as this summer.

“It’s true. I have been exchanging emails with Joe Dumars [Detroit Pistons’ President], who has asked me to come in summer,” revealed Khatib, who is 32 years old.

Khatib had been previously linked to a possible move to the Los Angeles Clippers back in 2003, when he signed a draft contract, but his team in Lebanon (Sagesse) refused to release him.

Wow, a 6'6", 210 lb 32 year old Clipper re-tread. I wonder how much money Joe plans on wasting on this guy. So much for focusing on youth....

Next season starting back court. Walker Russell Jr. and Fadi el-Khatib. I heard Joe D will offer 10 mil/year each for 5 years

Pete this would be a terrible idea. We are already overloaded at the wing spot. The only reason I could see for him being brought here is for some PR stunt, I can't imagine him adding anything.

Who's next, Cezary Trybanski? I just don't see this happening.

I've always secretly worried that Nikoloz Tskisthvili would be wearing a Pistons uni some day.

He's going to play a Damien Wilkins role at best. Why get mad?

1) Unless he has a trade lined up to deal BG for an expiring, maybe the last thing we need is another SG - let alone a 32 year old.

2) How many hours/resources have been spent scouting a 32 year old instead of scouting youth?

3) Signing Wilkins, although to a very small deal, made NOT playing Daye justifiable. Right or wrong, I'd rather lose with the youth, thank you.

4) I've lost my faith in Joe's negotiating skills. CV, BG, Prince's recently-signed contracts are very bad, to say the least. How much will this guy's agent swindle out of Joe/Gores?

I've never heard of him, but I would love another Damien Wilkins if the rest of the roster makes sense around him. I doubt Joe D will pay this guy very much anyways.

Not to change the idea of this topic, but. Is it wrong that I think the PIstons should bring in a veteran like Antonio Daniels to help mentor Brandon Knight? I wouldn't even expect him to play, his role would be just to help Knight adjust.

No, its a decent idea IMO. Maybe a guy for the vet min? And not Daniels....would need to find a guy that actually knows something about playing PG. Or bring in a guy like Eric Snow as an assistant coach.

I can't imagine us getting cap space to sign any significant FA anytime soon. And if Dumars keeps giving guys like Prince big contracts, we'll never get any flexibility.

If there's one thing Joe Dumars should never do again, it's sign Free Agents.

Between Hamilton, Gordon, Villanueva, Maxiell, and now Prince... I think we've seen enough.

These words should replace the "Detroit Pistons" logo. Seriously, instead of 'Pistons' or 'Detroit' on our uniforms, let's just have these two sentences.

By the time our other big contracts expire, Monroe will be making big money. Maybe Knight too. We're in a position to build through the draft, trades (if any of our assets can be moved), and smart, smaller signings (like McDyess).

Just wait until Joe gives Daye a 5 year 38 million contract.
