I'd rather save Jorts. He actually is decent at playing basketball.

Yeah, the problem with Tony is that he seems to have a low bball IQ. Combine that with his questionable work ethic and motor (Getting called out by SVG already is not a good thing) and you have a guy that probably will never pan out. I didn't mind the pick at the time, too much potential to pass up in the second, but a kid with this much talent should be doing more.

Exactly. And if anybody is gonna see it, Stan will. I think he's definitely next one out the door. Datome can shoot and he's a grown man. He's proved himself in the past. Mitchell is a little kid.

Tony Mitchell will be out of this league in a year or 2. He's stilll as raw as when he came out of hs and he doe3sn't possess the work ethic nor iq to play at the next level

Tony has talent but not the IQ or desire to play and work hard. In all honesty, I'd play him in the dleague all year and see if he develops. If he can't develop he becomes trade filler or simply let go at years end. No reason to cut him now unless we need the roster spot.

Why not let him play the 3, why not? Nothing left to lose.

Guys like Tony Mitchell are a dime a dozen. Amazing natural athleticism, with no work ethic or desire to improve.

If he didn't have a guaranteed contract for next season, he would have been waived already just like Siva and Jorts. He lacks the ball handling, shot making ability to play the 3, i don't know if he can defend SF either. He is as good as gone imo.

No, it's not....not at all.
At the end of the day, it's not about wins and losses. Teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship make champions of us all.

Go arbitrary assortment of athletes! Beat the other arbitrary assortment of athletes or my mood will suffer!

Mitchell is a athletic freak with good strength. Defensively he can guard a number of positions. Offensively, he is better suited cleaning the glass, getting out on the break, and getting the open pass for the dunk. He could become our wildcard hustle dude. But this is a guy who has to seriously be coached up.

He looks like a dude who was so athletic on every stage of development that coaches just let him develop bad habits without a thought towards helping him become a skilled player. The kid could be really good, he just has to put in the work.

Hustle isn't something you "coach up". You either have the will and mentality to be a hustle guy or you don't.

While I agree there are players who are self-motivated high energy guys who have the intestinal fortitude to go hard/hustle; there are still some who have that sort of work ethic taught when they are brought along in the right programs.

Through the years there have been coaches who have had the ability to squeeze every ounce of effort out of their players. They were able to get indolent low motor guys to buy-in and put it on the line for them. You look at Larry Brown teams, Popovich teams, SVG teams, etc and you see effort, committment, and energy.

The book on Drummond was he lacked a motor. He wasn't engaged. He was lazy. But what have we seen from Drummond? He's young guy who lacked guidance in college who wanted to learn. He ultimately got lost in a program that was in the midst of a difficult period with Calhoun being unable to be there to guide him.

Once he got into a better situation, we saw a guy with a motor and ridiculous potential. The same can be said of Tony Mitchell. In his first year in college he was a beast, he slipped in the second year and was under utilized in his rookie season in Detroit.

If pushed, he could be more than what he has shown.

Drummond and Mitchell have had the same NBA coaches. One guy chose to work hard. The other has done nothing.

The teams with consistent effort have great coaching AND front office staffs that will ship out guys who don't give consistent effort. Part of getting that level of effort consistently is that you demand it consistently from every player. If you let it slide for 1 player, it undermines the whole team. So, while Pop has certainly gotten the max out of the players on his team, he's also cut a bunch of guys who didn't play the way he wanted - including guys a lot more talented than Mitchell. He's willing to give guys a clean slate and judge them by their current actions, but you better get on board with what he's preaching if you want to stay around.
