Brandon Jennings Adds 25 Pounds Of Muscle

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Wed Sep 17, 2014 6:28 pm

Brandon Jennings has gained approximately 25 extra pounds of muscle in the offseason.

“I’m about 185, 190 on my good days,” said Jennings, noticeably thicker but still wiry.

Jennings expects the added weight to help on defense, as well as absorbing contact when driving to the basket.

Jennings also said Stan Van Gundy reminds him of Scott Skiles, who was his first coach with the Milwaukee Bucks.

“He’s really big on details and he said you’re gonna have to play defense and give your all, every night,” Jennings said. “He already said it, I’m not expecting you to lock guys up one on one. Guys are just too good. But what we can do is give a good effort and play team defense.”

has he bulked up a bit? probably, but to think that it's even humanly possible to put on 25 lbs. of pure muscle in a few months is ridiculous. my guess is it's mostly water weight, a la creatine.

Jennings is a idiot. I think he lost a decimal point and meant to say he put on 2.5 pounds.

His "scores 57 a day after scoring 50 " video was shot 2 months ago and he looked about 180

Muscle is better

For finishing/driving on offense, which will make his shot more played off of IE more open

and he won't be a paper mâché man on defense crumpling on screens and getting moved by any point guard because he is weak

Then he went to the toilet.

Seriously, I am excited that he is taking SVG seriously and at least try to play some defense. I hope it works. Rooting for him to prove people wrong. But, not holding my breath yet.

Can he go right hand now too? Being a good finisher at the rim requires improvisation... That second hand god gave him would help.

If he actually added a lot of muscle, then that is fantastic news. I'm sure that hell never fix all of his flaws, but the strength to finish through contact should make him less afraid of contact, and therefore hell drive more instead of pussying out and taking pull-up jumpers all the time. Maybe he'll even fight through screens sometimes!

He even denies adding that much weight. I think the reporter just exaggerated saying that he gained weight and it's probably true. Not 25 lbs over one summer though. That's ridiculous.

Jennings putting forth the effort to gain weight over the summer is great news! I got Jennings averaging 16pts and 8.6ast while shooting over 40%, he's going to prove folks wrong man. (Shout out to BMP)

It's water weight. Slim guys (I'm one of them) can't gain that type of weight in muscle or even fat over the course of a summer. The moment he stops hitting the gym, and drinking shakes 4 times a day, he'll lose 75% of that weight he put on.

I've been there. You can fluctuate 2-8 lbs a day when you're putting that much effort into gaining weight, only to see a very small net gain once you slow down. Normal people can put on the weight and adjust their diet accordingly, doesn't work for those of us who struggle putting on the LBs.

It's good that he has focused on getting bigger and stronger but putting on 25 pounds of muscle in a couple of months is impossible, as he said on his Twitter.

Betcha those 25 lbs just makes him more thickheaded.

Perhaps someday he'll learn to use his off hand.

Well regardless of however many pounds of muscle he put on, I hope he was working with an experienced trainer and not benching on his homeboy's lawn or in his man man's basement. Added muscle will not equate to added strength if it isn't functional strength.

Dude needs to do some serious core strength building exericences along with some of those techniques that build muscle endurance. Squats, pull ups, push ups, tabata circuit training, etc. is what you want to do to get right.

OR

Just pick up one of those T25 or P90X workout series videos and put in the time. There's little excuse for a male professional athlete to be built like a teenage cheerleader or pep squad pom pom girl. :noway:

This year is going to be serious exercise in deconstructing a player known for his potential and promise who has not delivered on the level once expected of him. This has to mark a huge turning point for Brandon Jennings in professionalism, work ethic, and sheer focus.

Players usually try harder when they have a coach who is personally vested in their best interests. Stan has always been personally involved with his players instead of just being an authoritative coach. He just appears intense on the court, but in the locker room, he is their confidant too.
