2014-2015 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball Year 3
14 teams with the same settings as last years. I sent out invites to all the people that were apart of the league last year, so check your emails.
I'll wait 2 or 3 weeks before so people have a chance to re-join. Then I'll delete teams that haven't rejoined, so new people can join.

Haven't ever played any fantasy sports outside of football. How does it work with 82 games a season and teams playing almost every night?

In my league you set your lineup everyday. There is some leagues that have weekly lineups where you must have your lineups set before Monday, and your starters are locked in for the week.

Assuming you're E Hawk, I just signed on to join the league.
Epheisey, it goes by week just like cumulative stats in Football do, though you are scored by winning individual categories rather than simply getting a win/loss for the week.
You can also change who's starting everyday, too.
RE: Scoring. I also thought that the number of different shooting percentage and scoring categories placed too much of an emphasis in that direction last year. Any thought to shaving the number of them?
We currently have:
Points
3 pointers
free throws
field goals made
FG%
FT%
3P%
That's too much of an emphasis on scoring related categories which IMO really marginalizes the importance of things like blocks, assists, and steals.
If it were me I'd drop all three "made" categories. I don't think they add much to the game and just place a much higher value on "volume" players.
That is my 2 cents, my participation isn't contingent on following those, but that's definitely what I would do.
I lost a lot of motivation last year when my star draft pick Anthony Davis went down with a major injury. My team had struggled with injuries and was basically being willed into contention by his excellence single highhandedly (since guys like DWill were grossly underperforming) and even the 3 weeks he was out was enough to put me out of the conversation entirely.
Hopefully I'll have better luck next year. It's been a while since I've had better than mediocre results in these.

I have no problem getting rid of some of the categories, though lets see what other people might want to do.

Absolutely. I just thought I'd throw it out there to see how others feel.

So do you go head to head with another team? Or are teams ranked out of 14 in each category? Fantasy football is definitely easier...for the less complex minds like myself haha.

I'm interested, if you don't get enough replies from former players.
What are the settings? Roto? H2H?

If everyone is ok with it I'd like to add the FAAB waiver priority to make pick up free agents on the waiver wire more interesting.
What that is each team has a imaginary budget, and have the ability to place bids on free agents. With this setting waiver priority would become a tie breaker if two people bid the same amount on one player.

The usefulness of that is contingent on the relative activity of players.
I like the idea but only if we're sure people will be active.

I'm in. Tied for the regular season crown, but lost in the semifinals last year. My team wasn't built for the offseason.
At the end of the day, it's not about wins and losses. Teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship make champions of us all.

Re: 2014-2015 Yahoo Fantasy Basketball Year 3
joined again.
I was fine with the 13 categories we had last year but if we do take some away (which i'm all for) we should probably do the standard 9 categories: PTS, ASTS, REBS, STLS, BLKS, TOS, 3PM, FG%, FT%
on top of what others have said, you go head to head with an opponent. there's typically 9 categories (I listed them above) and your team accumulates all these stats throughout the week. by the end of the week if one team has more points they 'win' that category and get a point. this happens for every category and whoever wins the most categories wins that week. most scores end in 5-4 or 6-3, anything more than that is considered a blowout.
if you win a week 5-4 then you it shows in the standings as 5-4, if you lose the next week 3-6 then your standings after that will be 8-10, etc. in that scenario you would have won one week and lost one week but you would still be under .500.
it's probably simpler than I made it sound lol. there are tons of different formats you can do (I was in a league last year that was identical to football, you set lineups once a week and players had one number for all their stats combined) but what I explained is the most common.
