It appears that Stan's post game interviews are not posted anywhere. The Magic website posted all theirs after the games so it was easy. Maybe, once the regular season starts, we will have them.

Anyways, I have here some recent interview to post in case anyone has not seen them.

Plus, this interview:
http://www.freep.com/videos/sports/nba/pistons/2014/10/14/17271961/

Plus this great News article of Steve Clifford, coach of Charlotte and former assistant coach to SVG while in Miami.

http://www.nba.com/pistons/features/pistons-landed-elite-coach-svg-charlottes-clifford-says

If you'’re short on time, don'’t ask Steve Clifford how his five years as an assistant to Stan Van Gundy helped prepare him to become an NBA head coach. You'’ll get a much more concise answer if you ask Clifford to name the areas in which Van Gundy didn'’t help mold the career assistant into the guy who took the woebegone Charlotte franchise to the playoffs as a rookie last season.

“He'’s an elite coach,” Clifford said before his mentor’s Pistons thumped the rebranded Hornets by 20 points on Wednesday. “And to be an elite coach in this league, you know, he'’s good at everything. He'’s a leader, he'’s super organized, he knows how to utilize his staff, he’'s a communicator, he'’s knowledgeable, he’'s a teacher and he has a work ethic and a passion to push himself that very few people have.”

Sure, but can he handle being both a coach and the president of basketball operations, Steve?

"“Yeah, because he’'s also one of the smartest human beings you’ll ever spend time with."”

There is no way I'd spend ten minutes of my life watching a pre-game coaching Q&A... until SVG got here. Totally worth listening to. Thanks!

JJ Reddick
Hedo Turkalu
Pietrus
Alston
Nelson

For the most part of their career, those players were under achievers, SVG put them in position to succeed. I have read that JJ owes his career to SVG, i recall turkalu being decent but not nearly the beast he was in the playoffs, and Nelson was Jennings before jennings perceptions wise. Pietrus and Alston were guys fighting for roster spots. He took them too the finals. Sorry for the rant, just watching magic game really got me thinking about how SVG changed players careers

I watched a long as panel from Sloan Conference once where SVG defended JJs defense.

Analytics say JJ was/is a poor defender because he doesn't get steals! SVG said JJ was a great team defender (would chuck the roll man every team, send Ray Allen baseline every time)...

IF SVG can get JJ to play great team defense imagine what he can do with KCP

Pietrus, Nelson, and Alston were good players before SVG coached them if I remember correctly. But I do agree, SVG is a master of playing to his players strengths and getting the most out of them. That's one of the major reasons I have hopes for Jennings and Smith and the continued development of KCP and Drummond.

Sorry I haven't updated as I caught a massive cold on top of work n such.

Anyways, here is Stan bringing the Pistons to the streets to meet the fans.

Stan stating Dinwiddle is currently at full speed

Oct 17th Post game quote:

Pistons Head Coach Stan Van Gundy

On whether execution breakdowns caused the loss:
“We weren’t in position to win that game from the minute it started. We didn’t put anything into the game for the first 18 minutes. Then we played well for 18 minutes, and that was it. You’re not going to win games playing a quarter and a half out of four on any evening.”

“We were fine from the middle of the second through the end of the third, so when you want to play you can. We didn’t put anything into it mentally or physically. I was not happy and they shouldn’t be happy either.”

On D.J. Augustin’s second quarter run to put the Pistons back in the game:
“D.J. (Augustin) played well. Greg (Monroe) played well. Both of those guys I thought competed well. Greg struggled down the stretch too, but until then he played well, D.J. played well.”

On the need to dominate the boards with a big lineup; third quarter being significant:
“No question. We weren’t very successful with any lineup tonight. They played a lot harder than we did with a lot more energy and it’s going to be hard to win games where teams play that much harder than we do.”

Pistons Center Greg Monroe said:

“As a team we need to come out with more energy. Like he (Coach Van Gundy) said post game ‘some nights you will lose for different reasons, but the only reason you can’t accept is by getting outplayed and having the other team play with more effort.’ That is what they did tonight and we can’t let that happen.”

(On adapting to Coach Van Gundy’s system) “I am adjusting pretty well I think. I think I fit in well with the stuff that he runs and eventually will be successful in it. I think we have the personnel to be successful in the things that he is running. He is definitely putting together some special things that fit our personnel even more.”

“I definitely think we can make a run at the playoffs. If you don’t have the mindset or that focus that you want to accomplish it, then no way. That is something we have to take one day at a time. It is definitely a goal of ours.”

Pistons Guard D.J. Augustin said:

“Stan has a great system. It pretty much is pick and roll or play through the big man. We have a lot of unselfish players so whenever I play with unselfish guys and guys that want to win, it is always a good fit.”

“He (Coach Van Gundy) wants everyone to be sharp and on their P’s and Q’s out there and that is what I try to do.”

“I just have to know my position and help on defense. I need to know the guy in front of me and keep him in front of me. Stan wants us to play as a team on defense so that is what we are trying to work on.”

I'd love to see if Dan Gilbert would really put his money where his mouth is if Lebron/Love/Kyrie cost $100+ mil between the 3 of them. I think Stan would as well.

The problem is that removing max contracts will kill the NBA's "middle class"

Maybe not. When some player takes up 50% of the cap, then he has to play with mediocre players whereas with a no max system, then teams like the 2004 Pistons could thrive. Because, no team could afford 3 superstars anymore like the Heat, Celtics, Lakers and now Cavs are doing.

Fancy and badmo, I think this is it although I haven't watched it directly. I only heard Zach Lowe talking about the experience on his pod.

Just watched the whole clip of svg at Sloan, it's all good stuff but 30:00 for about 3 min is my fav portion of his philosophy on player development.
