Van gundy interview

Post#1 » by kurtis48239 » Thu Jan 22, 2015 2:29 pm

I really wanted to post this interview done with stan,it gives fans like us more insight into who he is as a coach and an indivual and hes mindset over the last half of the season. It really makes you feel like hes always been a detroiter his whole life and has found a real home with us.I also like hearing about little stories from him and other players, and just by the way that other players talk about him or wanted a spot on this team to work with him, gives you a good feeling.Heres the link and enjoy.http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2325 ... in-detroit

Good read. The fact that everybody who plays for Stan (except Shaq, sometimes) speaks so highly of him speaks wonders to his ability as a coach. I firmly believe SVG is a top 3 coach in the NBA right now along with Carlisle/Pop. We're lucky to have him for sure.

Very good article. Josh Smith was definitely a rotten tooth, though -- Stan can't say it, but we can.

You've always got some guys, maybe half your team, who can go either way. If you put them around positive people who are professional and know how to do things, they become positive. And if you don't, they don't. And especially when you've got the young guys we have. Who they're around is a lot more important than what I do. A lot more important."

As a teacher, I can't tell you how true this is. In a class, there are leaders, there are chameleons, and there are negativity-mongers. The chameleons are the vast majority and take on the color of everybody else in the room. It seems like SVG understands this as much as any other coach in the NBA and it's why we were able to build what we have from such a lousy start.
At the end of the day, it's not about wins and losses. Teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship make champions of us all.
