the one thing smith gave every game was effort even if he had an bad game in scoring he still got steals and rebounds,

Our board is back to being a bitter and desolate place. I try not to take too much from any particular game, especially a 4th game in 5 nights. They have to adjust to a changed rotation and the loss of Jennings, but early returns are not encouraging.

undoubtedly been one of our best and most consistent players. This cannot be disputed. Greg does miss too many bunnies but nobody can serisouly expect any bigman to go 100% at the hoop.

He was easily our best player last night and was the only reason we were in this thing. Our perimeter players continue to be dreadful- it fathoms me how the guy who goes 20/11 on 53% shooting and 80% FT is getting blamed over the perimeter guys who go 6 of 44 for 13% FG . Our perimeter players cannot shoot, cannot score inside and quite frankly it doesn't even seem like they can make post entry passes.

Monroe was rolling in the 3rd Q and we got the lead to 9 thanks to him and Jerebko- and then are woeful perimeter players went away from what was working to pass the ball alongside the perimeter before chucking up a bad shot. That is how we lost this game. Monroe has stepped up since Jennings went down- DJ looked good the first 2 games, but nobody else has stepped up. We will get blown out many more games with no production from our perimeter players. Greg should be taking 20 shots if nobody else is willing to step up

Yeah, it's like people want Monroe to be a player that has NEVER existed before. They want him to be a force on the block, force on the perimeter, lock down post defender, rim protector, pick 'n roll and perimeter defender, rebounder, distributor, clutch and outright leader.

During the Cleveland game, Monroe chased Love off the three point line and did a good job of defending him all night and people of this board banged on him for not protecting the rim. But if Love would've went for 40, that would've been Monroe's fault too.

It's easier to just say you don't like Monroe and never will then trying to dissect every part of his game to find flaws. He's our best player and the team will be in a world of sh** if he leaves and we're playing that 4 and 1 with Drummond.

I think what the last few games have shown us, is how valuable Jennings is to this team. He was playing incredible ball before he got hurt. Without the guy who breaks defenses down:
1. Our perimeter guys aren't seeing open shots.
2. Our bigs aren't getting space due to our opponents having to compensate for Jennings penetration.

It's funny to say this with all of the talk about wanting to get rid of him. Now that he's gone, we sure miss him don't we.

No. Just no. Smith gave effort in attempting to pad his stats, not in trying to help the team win. Steals are not an indication of good defense. In fact, going for a steal leaves you more vulnerable on defense because you end up out of position most of the time if you aren't successful. Also for a 6-10 "athletic" PF, Smith rebounded at a pathetic rate, barely getting 7 boards a game.

In no way was Smith even close to the type of "effort" guy you're describing.

Put bluntly, Smith's effort was terrible as a Piston.
