The Official Off-season 2015
Figured it would be nice to have something central for articles, rumors, etc for this off-season..
Let me start with this...SVG and Bower's presser from today regarding this off-season.

Yea that's what I figured lol I prefer when they just leave the full conference intact myself, but oh well.
Yea I caught it just in time, so I saw it in it's entirety.
Everyone be on the lookout for it.

Re: The Official Off-season 2015
There was nothing surprising.
- Pistons will be looking to add high charactor guys with talent, not just guys with talent
- Not sure what Jennings will be able to provide next season, its a tough injury but Jennings is recovering well. He will be an Xfactor next season,
- Drummond made a big leap offensively and is rebounding well. Pistons haven't decided if hes getting max extension yet
- SVG sat down with Monroe today, he wants him to come back but not sure where Greg is leaning. Bowers says that Monroe knows a lot more about the team, SVG, how SVG plans to use him than he did last year and seems to think that will be a factor. Bowers credits Monroe for helping to establish high character locker room.
- They decided to trade for Jackson because he reminded them of the way Jennings/Augustin were playing as starters and had other attributes to offer as well
- They are dissapointed with their record but thinks they are trending upwards.
- They aren't going to have to scramble this offseason to add pieces likey they did last year with a year under their belts + a lot of new staff members. They will look to improve through the draft, free agency and trades.
- SVG doesnt think any guy who they draft will be a starter next season but hope to find someone who can contribute

So we're going to be looking for 2 starters in Free Agency based on that. Assuming that Monroe is not one. Getting one long term starter via FA is already going to be a difficult task to accomplish, but finding 2 isn't going to happen.

which I think is very reasonable. I still have some hope that SVG can make it work with a lineup of Jennings-Jackson-KCP-tolliver (or free agent/rookie)-Drummond.
It's obviously tough to say how SVG and his staff feels about the situation but I think it might work if they did what the sixers did in the early 2000's when they started snow and Iverson together. snow ran the point on offense with Iverson the shooting guard, and on defense snow would guard opposing SG's and Iverson would guard the point guards.
strictly talking about the roles of the position, Jackson would be playing PG on offense simply because he couldn't play SG. SVG loves to run his SG around screens to try to get open looks on the perimeter and there are multiple actions the offense builds off of from there. nobody would respect Jackson coming screens to shoot 3's, whereas they would have to respect Jennings going around those screens. Jackson is also better at penetrating off the pick and roll which is crucial in the offense. additionally, I think it will be important to have a reliable secondary ball-handler next year without moose to rely on offensively. having two PG's, essentially, on the floor would really help that along with whatever improvements KCP makes.
defensively Jackson does have the length to guard taller players on the perimeter, it all comes down to whether SVG is comfortable doing that.
at the end of the day, my thinking is that if meeks can play SG for ~20 minutes a game on offense (and defense too, hell), I see pretty much no reason why Jennings can't as well.

Assuming a healthy Jennings (a big, big assumption, sadly), I do think a Jackson/Jennings 1/2 on offense and 2/1 on defense is workable.... if we have good interior defense. Neither Monroe nor Drummond are particularly good help defenders, although Dre obviously could develop into one. If that means KCP plays the 3, that adds another potentially difficult transition that could still work. If that's the case, though, we need a serious interior defender at the 4, and I don't know if anyone like that is available. I'd try it with KAT if we win the lottery... we'd struggle some next year, but it'd be worth it.

one of the benefits with having a smaller lineup is that players will be able to make rotations quicker. a lot of teams these days are actually penetrating and kicking the ball out in hopes of getting an open 3. making quicker rotations will go a long way into stopping that.
I remember the heat in their heyday (2013) would go into their small-ball lineup and absolutely destroy teams defensively. they would have 4-5 minute stretches where opposing teams would not only go practically scoreless but would also turn the ball over a ton. obviously they had more talent, but my point is that there's more than one way to skin a cat.
most of our best defensive lineups this year had either jerebko or tolliver at PF, and neither of them are really rim protectors. we had singler and caron butler as our SF most of the year and both are a liability on defense. when SVG was with the magic they consistently had a top-3 defense with only howard as an interior presence. Drummond still has a lot to learn, but his size+athleticism alone gives him a big impact near the basket.

Watching brandons top plays...im not gonna lie i really liked what was happening to our squad, the streak, and playoffs all for the taking. **** man he had to get injured and svg had to make a business decision. Life isnt fair, but reality is reality. Brandon may not be the same player ever again, and svg had to make a roster adjustment. Svg has balls and brains. And i do love reggie. So hopefully brandon is cool with 30mpg off the bench bc he can be a sick weapon for us. And i think its worth a shot to see if it'll work with reggie at pg and brandon at sg for 15 min a game or something.

To fully grasp where the Pistons are, out of the playoffs a sixth straight year, you have to remember where they were at the end of last season, and the season before, and the season before. They swung from pathetic to apathetic, with ownership issues, coaching issues and player dysfunction issues.
It's staggering the Pistons' six-year run of missing the playoffs is the longest in the Eastern Conference. We can blame the ownership change from Karen Davidson to Gores, or the poor decision-making by Joe Dumars, or the selfish culture that grew in the absence of leadership and accountability.
But the Pistons have legitimate NBA assets now, and I'd rank them in this order: Drummond, Jackson, Van Gundy, a lottery pick, Jennings, salary-cap space, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Jodie Meeks. A year ago, they had more deficits: Smith, Smith's contract, Smith's 3-point misery, Jonas Jerebko, Rodney Stuckey, Will Bynum, Charlie Villanueva, no first-round pick.

I got sad watching those Jennings highlights. He was fire once smith was gone.
That spurs win was crazy.

Potential and he now has a giant set of balls on him. He was so much more confident this season over last year.
If he can be more consistent, he'll be a helluva player.
