Go get Thad Young!

Post#1 » by RexRyan » Thu Jun 23, 2016 3:36 pm

Three more years on his deal...... post moves...... for the 18th pick?

Past ten 18th picks......

Sam Dekker
Tyler Ennis
Shane Larkin
Terrence Jones
Chris Singleton
Eric Bledsoe
Ty Lawson
JaVale McGee
Marco Belinelli
Olesky Pecherov

One, maybe two of these players have turned out better than Young. He would be a more talented piece immediately. Plus, he could be the center in our Death Lineup.

Only negative is that it also eats up cap space

Eh, the past picks really have no bearing on the prospects in class. It's a completely separate entity.

Thad Young is overrated. There, i said it. He's not a good defender on the perimeter or at the rim and doesn't offer much on offense outside of the paint. If you like him his contract is appealing, but I don't think he's a quality player.

Dang, didn't think of that. That'd be our offseason, maybe enough room for DJ? Would have to include Jodie in the deal or in a subsequent deal.

If you want immediate production, you trade the pick for a vet. And I'm not sure we get anything better than him in free agency. Plus, it's a tradable contract, so when we do the inevitable two for one deal for a star, he's either part of the trade, or he slides into Morris' or Harris' minutes.

Three years of Thad versus a random rookie? IMO Thad's the pick......

Inevitable? How often do two OK to good players get traded for one star?

You are completely disregarding all pick from 19-60 which have produced many quality players! How can you honestly see this as an accurate portrayal?

Furthermore, you want to play Thad Young as a center? Seriously mate put down the bong/bottle/pipe or whatever the hell you're consuming because young would be a horrible center.

We don't need another average player, the 18th pick could easily be more productive in 3 years than what Young's ever been.

"We don't need another average player, the 18th pick could easily be more productive in 3 years than what Young's ever been."

Or the 18th player could be the median of the ten players listed above, which would be a waste.

The only thing the ten players listed above have in common is not being the player Detroit takes in the draft this year. Yeah he could still bust, but those other guys don't matter.

Of course they do - not to mention that this is regarded as a weaker draft. It's a representation of what the 18th pick has looked like. Look up the 17th and 19th picks, they're worse!

Shawne Williams, Quincy Douby, Sean Williams, Javaris Crittenton, Roy Hibbert, JJ Hickson... the list goes on and on.

The one thing that our 18th pick would have going for him is that SVG will give him a fair shake, because he's the guy who drafted him. But what are the odds that the pick helps us this year? One in five? What are the odds that the pick turns into a productive NBA player? One in three? I take the established player in a heartbeat.

Your obviously just looking at his name and not what he brings to the team.

Thaddeus young is the same height & weight as our current undersized bigs. There's only 2 undersized bigs id give my blessings to. Thats faried and biyombo. Keep thad tf away from our roster. K love would do thad like he did Tobias & mook

I like him as a player but he doesn't really fit with Marcus Morris and Tobias Harris already here. We don't need another SF/PF tweener.

I like him as an asset - currently we have six and a half good assets (Baynes). Young is a good piece. It's not a perfect fit, but you collect good assets on reasonable contracts and parlay them into what you really need. There are quite a few others I'd trade the No.18 for, all around the same production level. Yes, some would be better fits. But either way, it's an established talent upgrade.....

But then you work the horn and see what Morris and Johnson might fetch. Or Young, Johnson, and a first rounder. Or Harris and a first rounder......

Of course we could keep the pick, and the kids at the Draft Party will be excited. I want JaVale McGee!

So yeah, we could have gotten him. No question. I don't think he really fits though, and he's not that good.

His GF/Wife shat on Detroit at the time of the rumors linking him here IIRC. Stan/Bowers definitely turned him down for our 18 as BKLN would have started at 10 and asked every team sorta deal.
