Seems like most fans wanted him at PF and not at the three. Even then, this thread bump just seems like some troll stuff imo.

Snakebites wrote:^That would depend on what the Hawks are offering.

If they are, indeed, offering considerably more than the 45 million, then he won't (and shouldn't) take the QO.

If they are, indeed lowballing him, then he may take the QO. You seem to be puttin no stock in such rumors, so you are inclined to believe this isn't the case.

Players taking the QO are rare because such players (if they are worth money) rarely get severely lowballed by the teams that want to keep them. You seem to think theres no way the Hawks could be doing this. Thats your perogative.

There are 3 possible end games here.

The Hawks cave and give Smith a BIG deal (he won't settle for a smaller one like 45 million).

A sign and trade (I still put less stock in this one).

The QO. In this scenario, the Hawks don't want to commit the contract Smith wants and aren't interested in a sign and trade. Smith accepts the QO and the two sides resolve the issue in 09. Its not common, but Smith wont settle for a lowball offer just to get a contract done sooner. If he thinks he's work considerably more than what the Hawks are offering, he will attempt to get it next year rather than settle for a lower offer.
