Jeff, if you were the Texans who would you take #1?

For me it would be Manziel. New head coach is a supposed QB guru so he should be able to turn him into a legit nfl QB and the marketing potential in the state of Texas is huge. They should sell out every game and The Texans could possibly overtake the Cowboys.

1. If the Falcons trade up to #1, it might be for Greg Robinson and not Clowney. That goes on the presumption Robinson will go #2 to STL, which I do believe happens.

2. One of Buffalo and Detroit is going to take an offer from either the Jets or Eagles, both of whom are gunning for the same guy: Odell Beckham Jr.

3. Teddy Bridgewater's draft floor is the New England Patriots at #29.

Oh god, the thought of Teddy running that NE Offensive system.

Anything on the Saints at all? I'm really getting nothing from people.

During this draft process (and in their overall philosophy as a whole), Gus Bradley and Dave Caldwell have been open for citing competitiveness and self-reflection as key things they want out of their players.

Suddenly, while the other top QBs decided to not throw at the combine...Bortles did. And not even a day after Bradley spoke about players understanding their own weaknesses, Bortles said what he said in the interview.

Ugh...I was really hoping that Dave and Gus wouldn't fall for the "sell" of Blake Bortles. Looks like they did :(

Of the first round, can you list 3 picks you liked and 3 picks you disliked, and why?

who's a better SS prospect, Exum or Dixon? (I'm assuming the Vikings are looking at Exum as a SS, but maybe not)

Jeff..

I know you hate handing out draft grades before anyone plays a game (or a few seasons), but lets see your draft grades already!

I think he's retired until next year.

Three I liked:
Kyle Fuller to Chicago, gotta get some young talent in the defensive pipeline, he can play safety if CB doesn't work out. They didn't reach for a safety or DT.
Jake Matthews to Atlanta, best player in the draft and they got him at 6
Bridgewater to Vikings, best QB in the draft and they got him at 32

Three I didn't like:
Calvin Pryor to Jets. It's probably the best schematic fit for him, but he's just not good enough or reliable enough to be taken that high.
Dom Easley to New England. Wasted a pick on an undersized DT with two bad knees. Even if he gets back to close of his old self, how does a 285 lb DT work in a 4-3 defense?
Deone Bucannon to Arizona. Good player who helps them, but no way he's one of the 40 best players in this draft.

I'm not an Exum guy. More of an oversized corner with safety cover skills, and he's got injury flags. Was the 4th best CB the Hokies had, have a feeling he would have fallen a lot further had he not gotten hurt and everyone saw his limitations and how much better others were around him.

I posted my favorite pick for every team on Thursday. http://football.realgm.com/src_article/ ... very_team/

As for teams overall...
I like what SF did. Got some strong value and guys who can help both now and in the future. Drafted well for a team without much immediate need but some major ones (OL, RB, LB, WR) coming very quickly.

Chicago impressed. I'm not sold that Brock Vereen is a NFL starter but he's infinitely better than the wretched Major Wright/Chris Conte suckfest of a year ago. Ferguson and Sutton can both play. Carey will run well behind their line. Fales a solid career backup type and they waited for him. They took the wrong punter though.

Kansas City probably would get the lowest initial grade. I like their last three picks--Aaron Murray, Zach Fulton, LDT--A LOT more than Ford, Gaines, & DAT. Each of those first three guys went at least 30 spots too high. Gaines isn't even a scheme fit. They ignored WR & S, their two biggest needs, and had chances to take solid ones several times but passed.

Hi Jeff, thanks for all of your work leading up to the draft. Really enjoyed it all!

Can you tell me why you think Shayne Skov wasn't drafted? Seems a bit odd. And do you think he has a chance to make the 49ers as a UDFA? They've got quite the solid LB corps, so it was a strange place for him to sign I thought.

Thanks!

Here's a bit from Walter Football, which isn't always the best resource but is spot-on here about Skov:
http://walterfootball.com/wu2014sskov.php
He couldn't break 5.1 in the 40 in workouts. That's a killer.
FYI they also have excellent breakdowns on why Marcus Roberson and Louchiez Purifoy went undrafted too. Couldn't have written them better myself.

Will the Bills finally be bad enough to get a top pick in the draft?

The PITT running back, James Conner, is LEGIT.

I'm a big fan of their WR Boyd too. Conner having a big game vs. BC

Haven't watched him yet. Saw they lost to Bowling Green today and BGSU was without their stud QB.
