All Era Draft

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Sun Oct 19, 2014 11:02 am

If their was an All Era Draft, who do you take if you have the first overall pick?

I assume that most would take a quarterback, so who would it be. Montana, Unitas, Favre, Elway, Marino, etc? Or would you got OT, RB, or WR?

Or would you use the first pick on a defensive player like Reggie White, LT, Butkus?

Who would you pick and why?

Who is the first offensive player you would select if your first selections was a defensive player? (If different than from the above)

Who is the first defensive player you would select if your first selection was an offensive player?

Knowing what we knew at the time of the draft and not using career hindsight, I'd say John Elway is who I'd take #1.

Montana is the clear #1, everybody else is a distant second. I would easily take Montana, and then try to build an elite defense around him, maybe take Ray Lewis or Warren Sapp if they are available in the second round.

I would also consider taking Jerry Rice with my team's first pick if Montana is not around. Try to take Rice in the first round and maybe try to pair him with Brady, Brees, or Manning if they are available in the second round.

I'd take Jim Brown.

Into the modern game where RBs are so marginalized? Interesting pick.

It's more about the gap between him and any other RB. If I don't get Peyton Manning or Joe Montana, I know I can still have an awesome QB with Steve Young or John Elway or Aaron Rodgers or Otto Graham or Tom Brady or Johnny Unitas. If I don't get Brown I see much more of a dropoff to Walter Payton or Barry Sanders or Eric Dickerson relative to the QB dropoff.

If I'm limited to Super Bowl era, my first pick is either Reggie White or Lawrence Taylor. I'd need a coin to flip while on the clock.
