Falcons and the 2016 draft

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Fri Jan 8, 2016 8:11 am

I haven't really looked at the other prospects but the one name that jumps out at me is Leonard Floyd. Birds haven't really been the same since Spoon left.

I also have a man crush on Carl Nassib. I really don't know where he will go in the draft, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, but he is a high character guy whose skill and build remind me of Kerney.

Falcons need help at every position except for RB and QB. I think the Birds will go for defense or OL, but i also wouldn't be surprised if the Falcons went WR if Treadwell falls out of the top ten.

I found this mock draft.
Obviously it's early but it can be intriguing to see what they offer.

Robert Nkemdiche
DT/DE, Ole Miss

Hopefully, the Nkemdiche picture becomes a lot clearer as the draft process unfolds. Right now, it's almost impossible to guess where he might land. Talent-wise, he's a top-10 prospect with insane levels of athleticism for a 300-pounder. But there are significant red flags, highlighted by last month's fall from a hotel window, out of a room where police discovered marijuana. http://www.si.com/nfl/2016/01/06/2016-nfl-mock-draft-laremy-tunsil-jared-goff

The thing I keep hearing about Nkemdiche is that he has no motor. Getting him at 17 could either be a grand slam or a huge whiff. The kid is super talented, went to Grayson Highschool in Gwinnett County, so he'd be a homegrown addition that many fans will get behind.

At the end of the day, I think talent will win out and that he'll go before our pick, if he stays out of trouble from now until the draft.

We need serious LB help. At this point I'm looking at one of Myles Jack, Reggie Ragland, or Leonard Floyd. Things will certainly change between now and April, however.

I like Floyd, but I'm really not in love with anybody. I would be looking to trade down and try to get extra 3rd round pick. Looks like their still could be alot of quality DE/LB and OL in the late first round.

I would stay at 17 just to see if anybody fell out of the top ten, and if not, take a trade if anybody offered. 17 is a good spot if teams want to try to sneek up and try to get a guy like Ezekiel Elliott or Paxton Lynch.

ESPN Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. released his first mock draft Thursday, in which he has the Falcons taking Clemson DE Kevin Dodd with the No. 17 pick.

CBs and DEs are very deep in this draft. Wouldn't be a bad idea to take a pass rushing DE opposite of Beasley, and then wait till the 2nd to take an ILB. We definitely need to address some of the offensive line in FA, however.

Falcons have been so bad for the last two years that they really need help at every position except for RB and QB. Now is not the time to be choosie about the position and just go after pure talent. Trade down or see who falls to 17.

Only Tunsil, Ramsey, Bosa, and Goff are locked to go in the top ten. Checking the other top mock drafts, both of bloggers and scouts and sports writers, the field is wide open. Lawson, Ragland, Floyd, Hargreaves, Buckner, Stanley, Treadwell, Allen, Alexander, etc. are scattered in alot of mock drafts from top 10 to late 1st/early 2nd.

Once the 40s come out, it will probably stabilize the order and we will have a better picture who will go where. Quinn loves tall DBs. Jayron Kearse comes to mind, at 6'5, he could be a possible 2nd or 3rd round pick. Darian Thompson a 6'3 ball hawk is another possibility.

When I check the prospects, I was surprised to see Bob Whitfield's son is a DB prospect. He is 6'3 out of Stanford, and could be an interesting 6th, or 7th round pick up.

One guy I want to mention who could be a 2nd round Pro Bowler is Will Fuller. He is a track star WR. I saw two Notre Dame games this year and in both game, he looked un-coverable and seem to play at a different gear then everybody else.

Out of the 5 listed Josh Garnett ranks #1 on my list.

5 players for the Falcons to watch at the Senior Bowl http://atlantafalcons.blog.ajc.com/2016/01/20/cover-99-5-players-for-the-falcons-to-watch-at-the-senior-bowl/

The complete draft order has come out. Falcons might be in a good spot to trade down to a team like the Seahawks who might want to move up to get Ezekiel Elliott or the Texans who might want to get a QB.

40s came out and for me Leonard Floyd and Shaq Lawson are the biggest winners. Floyd is #1 on my board now, he looked like Jevon Kearse in the combine. Shaq also had an impressive 40 along with his 270 weight he brought in.

Emmanuel Ogbah wasn't on my radar before, but after watching him at the combine, he should be brought into the conversation for the Falcons now

Bosa and Spence had just a really bad day at the combine and didn't impress me at all. I don't think I would even use a 1st round pick on either of them. Bosa had a decent 40 but i was just so disappointed that he came in so light at 265lbs. I was hoping that Bosa would come in at 290lbs like Watt, Peppers, or Seymour. I could be wrong about Bosa but with his 40 and weight at the combine, he basically has the same combine numbers as Jamaal Anderson or Chris Long. I would really take Nassib over Bosa. Spence was also a big disappointment, I thought Spence would have the same performance as Khalil Mack, but Spence looked more like Jarvis Jones.

I'm really not a fan of Robert Nkemdiche, before the combine, I didn't want anything to do with Nkemdiche, but after the combine, he has got me thinking twice

He put up the performance i wanted Bosa to put up. Nkemdiche is 300lbs and basically ran a 40 on the same level as JJ Watt and Leonard Williams. What also impressed me about Nkemdiche is that his 300lbs it looked liked he carried on his shoulders and chest and not alot or any on his gut.

I'm still way way concern about his work ethic, I probably wouldn't take him over Floyd or Lawson, but if the Falcons do end up taking him, I wouldn't be upset, unlike before the combine, where i would have been upset if the Falcons took him

Robert Nkemdiche has some alarming red flags.
6.5 sacks over three years. Never forced or recovered a fumble.
That concerns me greatly!!!!!!
I question his desire to succeed but time will tell and the NFL is the league that will prove it.

Our Coaching staff is asking players at the combine if they're gay or not?
Not a good look for us at all but it could be a common thing.

For what it's worth Chuck Smith on 92.9 the game today said that Ragland would be the "perfect" pick for the Falcons to make in the first round. He's worked with Ragland since he was a sophomore at Alabama.

Ragland falls into the category for me were he is not my favorite but i would be okay or not upset if the bird ended up picking him.

I would not pick Ragland over Floyd or Shaq, but if that did happen, i wouldn't be yelling at the TV either.

Ragland is okay, he is no Patrick Willis or Ray Lewis, i also don't see Luke Kuechly in Ragland, because Kuechly is known for dropping back into coverage and that is not one of Ragland's strenghts, but i do see Ragland on the same level or same mold as Curtis Lofton

Here is a question. If no WRs are selected by pick #17, do the Falcons go WR in the first round?

Treadwell is tempting. To me he looks like the WR version of Tony Gonzalez. He never catches the ball with his body.

It is tempting, but i would be upset if the Falcons took WR. The Falcons should do what John Elway does, and always pick defense in the first round.

Will Fuller, Michael Thomas, Malcolm Mitchell could be good WR prospects to pick up in the 2-3 round.
