Jeremy Tyler and Charles Jenkins

Postby dankchops on Mon Aug 27, 2012 12:04 am

It looks like we've decided to keep Tyler.. so hopefully Tyler has made improvements and will be a decent player this season. If he's not a plus guy to our team we should package him and Jenkins and send them off. I love Jenkins but with Curry and Jack, he's close to no use to us.

If Curry stays healthy up until around the trade deadline I'd like to see us grab some underrated youth for Jenkins and throw in Tyler as a sweetener if he hasn't improved. Good thing we'll have a good amount of blowouts so they will have showcasing opportunities.

What do you all think we could get for Jenkins, Tyler, or Jenkins/Tyler?

Tyler has all of the physical attributes necessary to be a good player. He's a 6'10, 260lb athletic dynamo. There really aren't a lot of specimens like him on planet earth.

The issue with him has always been about his motor. And I don't think he has done anything in his time here to prove the contrary. He seems to think that he doesn't need to work hard to get results, that he's naturally just good enough.

Something would need to click with him in order for him to succeed and turn into a legit NBA player. I have a feeling that the best we can hope for is him to bust his butt in his contract season and become a valuable trade piece.

I have a much better feeling about Jenkins. The guy has a professional attitude. He's the first one in the gym and the last one out. While his skill set is not ideal for a PG-- not quick enough to defend most PGs, not a natural passer-- he has value as an instant offense bench scorer. I think he'll stick around the league for a while in this role, although perhaps not with us since we already have plenty of firepower at the guard position.

I think neither player will play much this year, but Jenkins will show more and our FO will want to keep him around.

So if they dont improve you want to trade them for guys with potential? Why would another gm make such a move?

So.. if Curry were to go down again... We'd be okay with one point guard on this roster?

Jenkins may get minutes at SG if they feel the need to go small & have another ball handler on the court at the same time as Curry.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

Probably would get some more #2 picks with less potential. With Curry's uncertainty, we definitely cannot afford to give up Jenkins at this point. Name a better guy suited for 3rd string PG than him who would be happy with it. I can't think of any.

I'm with turk, I have a hard time giving up a guy with Jenkins' attitude. Tyler still has a ton of potential.

Tyler becoming a Darrell Arthur type 3rd/4th big off the bench would be enough. Most likely would be used as sweeteners in a deal to get rid of Jefferson.

OK, you guys are right about Jenkins especially since Jack's on a 1-year deal. But I still think we need to get rid of Tyler and his Ferrari if he doesn't show us anything. I honestly wish they'd just dump him and sign McGuire. May be losing hope too early though he is still very young.

Anyone know if we're gonna get a big man coach in place of Unseld?

Both played, even started...and played BETTER than I'd have expected. neither is ...however...a fat trade chip. at best...we might trade one,or both, and break even....which is pointless.

These days...it's VERY rare a player is drafted with such a thin resume as Tyler...who did not play his Sr year in High School. Thus as close as you can compare is E Kanter, who played his Sr yr,but no college. Tyler's overseas career...did not amount to much,he got few minutes vs minor competition. D League or a JC would have done as much for him. Yet...he's got some game...and MIGHT improve a LOT.

Lilliard was a rather high lotto after being a scoring PG at a minor school. Same as Jenkins. Neither had great team-mates to feed, had to be the bulk of the offense.

Note...Kanter and Lilliard were top 10 picks. Tyler + Jenkins were "Blue Light Specials". GSW got "upside" and got it cheap. That...is good. Logically...you give them BOTH at least a year. J Jack is a guy who might only be here a year. Festus...can shotblock but otherwise,Tyler does all the other stuff better...already.

Seriously...even if we cashed out on both...what would we GET? Show me the deal where I WIN, turn a sure profit. i'd trade Yo Mamma, but just some silly idea of trading our SLEEPERS who are DIRT CHEAOP...just to do something...I see NO point.
CENSORED... No comment.

We definitely shouldn't trade any for peanuts and I'd much rather keep Tyler than McGuire. Tyler still has the potential to be an above average player if we're patient with him and coach him wll, and Dom really only works for guarding certain types of wings. I'm much more intrigued by Bazemore than McGuire, and with those young guys like Bazemore and Tyler we can develop them in the D League and call upon them when needed. If we play Tyler in the right situations he could become at the very least a sweetener if we try to unload RJ or Beans. Jenkins already could be a nice sweetener since he's young, can score and play some backup PG

Tyler can't have much trade value at this point.

Might consider it for a mid 1st rounder.
