They probably thought they were building an iconic building like Sydney Opera house; which if as successful and Lacob/Guber had an ownership stake in, could have easily tripled or quadrupled the franchise value. Possibly making $1.5b profit from a sale after less than a decade ownership is a pretty sweet return on investment.
