A reminder on behavior while you are here on RealGM

RealGM is a private community. You have no "right" to be here, and are here because the owners of the site allow you to be here, provided you follow their rules. Their rules say that you cannot attack other posters. Their rules do not say that you can't attack professional basketball players/public figures. The reasons why that distinction exists should be abundantly clear, and should not require explanation. If you abide by the rules, you are welcome and encouraged to stay and post. If you can't follow those rules, you are encouraged to leave. If you choose to stay and ignore the rules, you will find yourself banned from the site.

Hopefully that was more clear. If you found my previous post to be a bit insulting, feel free to report it. It will be reviewed by moderators other than me.

Chris I understand the rules perfectly well.
I understand that a forum will turn into a mess if we start insulting one another.
But it still doesn't answer my initial question: why is it ok to insult a player? I asked this from the start. Because as I CLEARLY stated in my previous post that it's not ok to insult anyone. And it shouldn't matter who he is famous or not. Regardless of whether I know a player or not. It's not ok to insult people period.
I'm asking for an explanation because to me this is blatantly inconsistent.

The world is full of rules that differ for private parties versus public figures. Are you honestly suggesting that sports fans shouldn't be able to say bad things about players?

That is a rhetorical question. I'm not really interested in discussing it further. If you can find another sports discussion forum where users are not allowed to speak poorly of players, by all means point it out. And to get back to the original point, if it is never okay to insult people period, then even if someone else insults someone, it shouldn't be okay to insult them back. This is grade school material; if someone does something you think is wrong, it doesn't justify doing something wrong in return. If someone insults a player (Andrew Bogut, just to throw out an example out of the blue), even on RealGM you are welcome to discredit their views on the player (i.e. to talk basketball). What you can't do is attack the poster.

So your answer is it's ok to insult public figures because that's what everyone does and that's ok if we do so too and that's that.

Understood, I'll let it go now.

I try to mind my behavior here. I have my pants on tonight. I have not said anything nauughty in awhile.

I'm trying to set high standards for table manners.

And.............Bad Porn was a funny nickname ...though Maggette was not the "horrible" player many claimed. I wish Barnes would learn to attack and draw fouls like that... it would make him a standout
CENSORED... No comment.

Let me try to understand that , you saying it not ok to react bad at someone hurting you .
Funny how in the west world we always punish the reaction rather then the original bad action buy someone. :banghead:

You are confusing reacting properly with vigilante justice. If someone breaks the rules at your expense here, the proper reaction is to report their post. If you click the report button, it gets looked at by the mods. They either:
- Decide the rules were not broken
- Decide the rules were broken and edit the post
- Decide the rules were broken, edit the post, and issue a warning to the poster
- Decide the rules were broken, edit the post, and recommend a suspension
- Decide the rules were broken, edit the post, and recommend a ban

If you decide to ignore the proper way to respond, and decide to break the rules yourself, then yes, you may be punished. If it makes you bang your head that you may be punished for breaking the clearly stated rules, then feel free to find another community to participate in.

Thank you for your kind words , and yes I do understand the rules.

This is a sports forum, so discussing athletes in both a positive and negative way is part of the discussions. A forum where you're only allowed to say good things about players is useless.

Personal attacks on posters have nothing to do with basketball and derail discussions about basketball, so no personal attacks. It's not that complicated.

Quick question to the Mods. I created a thread on the General Board that got locked and subsequently a one day suspension for me. Maybe the title was a bit of baiting, even though I did it simply for the art of creative headline writing. And thought it was funny...

Question is... why did I get suspended? I didn't get a warning or pm explaining why I was suspended. Is it possible a Clipper mod took offense and is on a power trip... or do you think it was a actual suspend-able offense. Either way... l shouldn't I at least be told why I was suspended so I can avoid doing it again? It's not like I have a track record of being a trouble maker...

The easy answer is 'I don't know'. The only thing I can tell you is that those guys have it rough. The General Board is a nightmare to moderate, so I'm pretty sure they need to be more ruthless than we are here to have any hope of maintaining sanity there.

I don't think you need explanation NuWarriors......you already answered it yourself. Saying what you said in the title is an immediate bate. Saying anyone hates America is a tough sell right off the bat.

Now if you had video or an article where Blake Griffin says he hates America, then maybe you could have rephrased things to say "Blake Griffin says he...."
