March Madness: Warriors NBA Draft 2015 War room

Post#1 » by cdubbz » Mon Mar 9, 2015 10:03 pm

March Madness is coming up so it's a good time to evaluate some college hoop players, talk tournament, and who the Warriors should target for their late 1st round pick. Also just use this thread to talk All NCAA, ALL NBA draft etc. Not just Warriors.

Chad Ford's top 10 lottery mock draft: 3/9/15

If you've been under a rock or don't follow college hoops here are some lottery/first round pick players:

Karl Anthony-Towns aka Big K.A.T and Willie Caulie Stein from Kentucky
Image

Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones (mid-late first rounder), Justise Winslow
Image

PG/SG D'Angelo Russell from Ohio State

What kind of players do the Warriors need? Who should they target?

I don't see much point to focusing on guys apt to be lotto picks and top 10. We're taking a guy at 29-30. Exactly who's there we want.. it's too soon to say. If we do our homework.. we can get a good value, an asset.

I'm liking this class a lot more than the last draft which was overhyped.
Most 4th Quarter Points in Final since 1991
1995 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
2000 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5 (61.1% TS)
2015 Stephen Curry 10.8 (75.1% TS)
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7 (55.1% TS)
1998 Michael Jordan 10.6 (50.6% TS)
2011 Dirk Nowitzki 10.3 (68.0% TS)

Rondae Hollis Jefferson is the guy i want the Dubs to take. No idea if he'll be available when our pick rolls around, but the mock drafts i've seen indicate "there's a chance".

We need anyone who will make the team (based on quality of play) and have some upside to be a good rotation player.
Defense is priority.
Hard work is another.
Position he plays... not as important when picking at 29/30.

I caught one of his games early in the season and i couldn't believe he is just a freshman. Haven't caught much of him since, but he's definitely talented. More skill than OJ mayo had in his one year and derozan.

2 year starter Center/PF that has a motor. Ezeli 2.0 that can stay healthy would be fine with me.
In 1971, the team moved across the Bay Area to Oakland, and changed its geographic name to Golden State to symbolize the team as representative of the entire state of California

Tyrone Wallace 6'5 SG 200 lbs from Cal. Watched him play live and liked what I saw. Can score from all around, but not a great shooter, but he can handle the ball.
17ppg 7rpg 3.8apg

Image

Rakeem Christmas 6'9 250lb PF SR at Syracuse - Dude is a 4 year player and is having a great statistcal year 17ppg, 9rpg 2.5bpg. Haven't watched him play much though.

Chard Ford recently bumped Karl Anthony-Towns to #2 on his draft board. I thought it was ridiculous that he wasn't #2 before! A real shot at being the #1 pick in the draft too -- better defender and his offensive game is picking up.

I still take Okafor over him. To me Okafor has that next level talent that will make him a better pro than a college player.

I like Towns, but Okafor is a step above, and is dealing with double and triple teams every night out. The Kentucky bigs have the luxory of depth and low minutes.

Tough pick in my opinion. Okafor plays heavier minutes and experienced more in college because of that, his offensive post game is beautiful that will trasnslate nicely to the NBA, his defense is questionable, but he's definitely a monster. I've always though of him as the big man version of Kyrie Irving -- chubby Duke freshman, great offensive game already, not so much on defense. Once he works on his body in the NBA he'll be an offensive beast.

Towns to me has shown superior defense and solid offensive moves. The big mystery of Kentucky is that their depth has hidden all of Towns talents because of limited minutes.

I think the tournament will be telling. See how Okafor and Towns do in a must win game.

Trade back into 2nd round and get Euro stash players. This would continue to borrow from Spurs model.
Like Diop Multinov etc.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but North Carolina hasn't had a lottery player since Harrison Barnes also had Henson and Marshall that draft year (2012) . They had Reggie Bullock in the first round a few years ago, but that's it. They've been in a short slump.

Anybody a Tyus Jones fan? Little guy is a really solid point guard. He's only a freshman and i really hope he stays at Duke another season or two, but chance he can go into the draft this year.

Watching the 2nd half of this Duke NC State game and Okafor can't protect the paint haha. Good at passing out of double teams and scoring in the block, but defense continues to be the big weakness.
