I think ~$3.2m/3 ($1m->$1.045m->$1.09m) would've done it for him. Draymond got $2.9m/3.

It's not like he's famous enough to get more $ overseas.

True, but they did spend $2.4M cash to purchase the pick to draft him. So, just a little surprised they didn't try for a three year deal. If I recall, the two year minimum salary deal was announced very soon after he was drafted.

Yep. A 3 year deal is always great for a 2nd rounder that has a decent chance to make it..gives an extra year at CHEAP cost to the team.

Perhaps McCaw insisted on a 2 year deal.

Maybe it's because the 2019-20 cap is projected to only be a slight increase over the 2018-19 cap which means waiting an extra season won't dramatically increase the amount of money teams will have available to sign him to an offer sheet. No reason to wait an extra season to get that first big contract?

If he breaks out and gets an Arenas rule contract with a big year 3 raise, it puts a ton of pressure on us because our 2020-21 payroll, if we still have our big 4, becomes astronomical.

Glad to see Mccaw training hard. Curious how players usually pay for offseason training and workouts? Does the team have summer training and staff on hand paid for by the team? And if the player chooses to train closer to home, does he pay for folks out of pocket, or is that reimbursed by the team?

For example, it probably doesn't matter to say, Steph, with his $12M salary, but for minimum contract guys, the cost of training could eat a good chunk into his wages

I would be interested in knowing that too. I'd imagine it's worth it for the team to shell out, especially since they can also influence who said staff is then.

Not a GSW fan in particular, but congrats with this pick guys. McCaw will be considered as not only a steal at #38, but he'll also be considered one of the top players in this draft. He's so crafty and plays like a veteran. Extremely well suited for today's game as well. Amazing pick.

Thanks bud....what I like about him is his length at SG. And I think he will guard pgs for us off the bench. Which will allow Iguodala and Livingston to guard bigger players and not have to chase down little quick guys.

Plus McCaw showed he can stroke wide open threes. If we can get him to shoot 35% +, then he will really help to spread the floor with the bench. Kerr said he should be able to contribute quickly. He's gonna have to show himself over Ian Clark, but hopefully with all the potential blowouts, he'll get lots of work.

Great outing in the preseason game.

Myers is probably beating himself up for not signing McCaw for 3 years like he did for Draymond.

During the summer league and the Raptors game, McCaw has shown he really belongs. He sees the game - moves, steals, and passes understanding what the other 9 guys on the court are doing.

That's huge. Unlike a fluke which a rookie gets hot and scores 20 points for a couple of games (left open because no one knew about him)... what McCaw shows has continuation.

With that skill set, a lot of GMs are beating themselves up now. McCaw plays like lottery talent in this draft.

The reason he was signed to a two year deal, the Warriors could use their minimum exception, instead of salary cap.

There is a lot of limitation on matching his contract because he is only with the team for 2 years instead of 3 (poison pill).

Having said that, it will all depend on the new CBA, but these stuff is not likely to change much.

I heard someone say that McCaw slid down in the draft due to off court issues, but I haven't uncovered any. I haven't tried very hard, but honestly don't know why he went into the second round? I don't think his weight is an issue as there have been several success NBA players who are just as slight as he. I heard some NBA team scout say that they had him pegged talent wise between the 13th and 19th pick in the draft. Think it was a way to say we didn't screw up, we just didn't draft him?

I think he slipped mostly due to how poor UNLV was as a team. Being the best of the worse doesn't regulate you to star level.

Speaking as a UNLV fan that simply isn't true at all Pat has been stellar in off the court activities as much as on the court ones. The team he was on last year had bad luck injury wise at one point during the end of the season they had to get a former walk on who was valeting at a casino to comeback just so they could have 7 players. The reason Pat was drafted lower then he was is because UNLV outside of conference games really weren't on nationally tv. The team wasn't good and pat was being asked to be the primary scorer which isn't his personality. I was excited when he got drafted into the Warriors as that was one of the best fits for his game.
