Loss of Mike Brown was the demise?

Could someone of Mike Browns caliber as an assistant have kept the train going? I know we lost poole so the roster is different from when Mike was here. But it’s hard not to entertain whether someone like Mike Brown who filled a lot of Kerrs defensive deficiencies is the reason why the warriors are losing a ton of close games and lack of aggressiveness on the defensive end. I don’t know who would have been a better candidate than Atkinson but just another theory on why we are we are now.

I say yes. The D has been horrid since he went to Sac.

Brown had 2 jobs as Steve's AC: he was responsible for the defense and was in charge of rotations.

The defense has been a mess since he left.

Since then, players put in bad roles and the new schemes have left us vulnerable. It also looks like we don't practice defense because we look so disconnected on the floor. Brown left us a good blueprint with essentially the same personnel, except kerr and Atkinson changed it. Now we are seeing drop offs everywhere.

And nothing more needs to be said about the rotations this year.

Top reasons for our demise:

1) Father Time
2) Losing KD
3) Whiffing on JW and taking raw players in JK and Moody
4) Being capped out for a decade straight

...

Exactly, we've been spoiled. This has been coming for a while now. I'm only frustrated that it seems like we're making this half ass attempt at keeping the core together, when it's time to turn to the next chapter. I think MDJ knows that but he's in a tough spot.

The best players are way old and the second best players are way young. What could go wrong?

To add to this Wiggins played his best seasons during Browns Tenure.

He was supposed to be the bridge between the oldies and the rooks.

Aside from Alvin Gentry, who basically became a AHC and is now a VP in Sacramento, a lot of the Warriors ACs are having success elsewhere

Alvin Gentry left and became HC in NO - improved their offense but defensively got crushed, just like PHX. Best served as an offensive AC
Mike Malone has his own ring - he was the actual originator of our defense, not Mark Jackson
Luke Walton became primary AHC when Gentry/Malone left - that year we lost in the finals, until we added
Mike Brown, who revamped our defense twice in 5 years and got 3 rings out of it. He's currently getting a lot out of the SAC roster, which is a bit overrated but coached really well

Now our primary AHC is Kenny Atkinson, who like Kerr and Walton, seems to be JAG for the most part. People put so much stock in the HCs, but the AHCs are just as important.. we were lucky to have guys like Mike Malone and Mike Brown when their stock was low. Its unlikely to matter now, but thats where the biggest change needs to come, since Kerr has now been extended.

I would suggest starting to interview anyone named Mike

Father time is the big one probably including father time’s effect on Ron Adams who is repotedly semi-retired. So we mostly lose Adams and we lose Mike Brown and we don’t replace them with another defensive coach. Kenny Atkinson failed as their replcement. Coaches don’t count against luxury tax. Hire the best available defensive coach this summer.

The offense and the constency of effort also don’t look that good. We might Also be missing Alvin Gentry and Luke Walton. Who coached defense for Mark Jackson because our defense got good under Jackson..

Former Jordan era Bulls defensive player Pete Myers who replced Jordan at off guard when Jordan left the NBA to play baseball was on Mark Jackson’s 2014 staff.
