2013 Draft

Post#1 » by ohara » Thu Apr 25, 2013 11:37 pm

Tonight is Round 1. Hearing from Charlotte beat reporters that the Panthers are very high on TE Eifert from Notre Dame. They say they like him "a lot". Will be very interested to see if they like him over Star L. or Sheldon Richardson if they are available. Do not expect Tavon Austin to be there at #14. He will go earlier.

They also say that if San Fran offers both #31 and #34 for #14, Panthers likely do not make that trade. Not enough back to fall 17 spots. But if they throw in the other 2nd rounder also......

Panther fans will be happy. Got the man they wished would fall to them at #14 in Star Lotulelei.

Wish we could get a good CB but if they keep upgrading the lines I'll be happy.

What an awesome pick, Loutelie was the best DT/NT prospect in the draft without a doubt. He is a run blocker who has the strength to crash the interior of an O-Line on passing downs.

My guess is our 2nd will be a CB or a WR, whomever is highest on the board at the pick. Would love for them to have a shot at Justin Hunter with their 2nd. He has a 1st round grade on move boards, so I kinda think he goes quickly in the 2nd.

I would rather it be Marcus Wheaton if we are going to go WR

Like the idea of a CB if Wreh-Wilson is still there. Safety is an option also as Cyprien is still on the board. We will know soon enough.

Sleepers: The team was seriously considering Eifert. Do you think they might take the TE from Stanford, Ertz, if he is still on the board when they make their 2nd? Would be tremendous value pick. And they may go with an O Lineman since it is clear that Otah will not play again. Couple of real good ones till out who had late 1st round grades.

Wow we are going to have one hell of a DLine come next year!

Kawann Short is a great 2nd round pick. The Panthers have made a strong effort in making sure they defend the run like monsters next year. I really like the plan of attack in this draft.

Unless we make a trade, we are done for the night.

Nice to have a draft where we can build the lines with for once instead of reaching for RBs, WRs or QBs. I can't believe Amerson got drafted that high, or that Glennon got drafted at all.

With our 4th rounder, would love to steal Barrett Jones, the OL from Alabama. 2 time All American, smart, and can play multiple positions. Really would go a long way in helping the team by adding an O Lineman who is that versatile. Had foot surgery after the Nat'l Championship Game, but if the doctors cleared him, he would be a steal.

Thoughts on Star? I like the pick but am wary of the alleged motivation issues.

O-Lineman Edmund Kugbila in the 4th. Like it. Would love to see him compete to get playing time and start opposite Silatolu. The guy is from Ghana, has loooong arms and is strong. Very nice pickup.

Rooster: I was turning back-flips when Star fell to us at #14. This guys is a Top 5 talent. No concerns about the heart issue. I hear about the issue with his motivation, but I saw the guys play 3 times last year and he was very solid and a big impact player. He will be tremendous for the Panthers. I love this draft so far for us!

LB A.J. Klein taken in the 5th. Good value and the Panthers sticking to the game plan.

Kenjon Barner, the RB out of Oregon, in the 6th. Makes a pretty crowded backfield now, but I really liked watching him play. Good value pick in the 6th round.

Pretty good draft I think. I hope the rent-a-receivers are worth a damn and our D-line is upgraded enough to offset our crappy DBs. If so, might sniff the playoffs for once.

I think Our D-Line is going to do great this season. Short is a very solid pass rusher and Star can collapse the inside of the pocket.

In the undrafted FA signing, Panthers signed Robert Lester, Safety out of Alabama who is really solid. He will very likely compete for some playing time. Played his last 3 years at Bama. Also signed Melvin White, who is a solid CB/S who had a 6th round draftable grade. These two will likely contribute on Special Teams and may get on the field if injuries occur during the season.

Damn good draft gents... I usually post on the orlando magic forum ... but i'm a big Carolina Fan (Grew up partly in Boone)... anyways Love LOVE the draft everything was more then legit this year ... yes our cornerbacks are not elite starting CB but with the BIG upgrade on our dline is going to make thier jobs alot easier...
