Game# 9 Car. at San Fran

Post#1 » by ohara » Tue Nov 5, 2013 10:33 pm

This one is a monster game. Carolina wants to continue this run of 4 straight wins with a huge road win against a team who many/most expected to rep the NFC in the Super Bowl. Cam has to be at his very best against the Niners defense. And the defense has to find a way to stop an explosive Niner offense. They can be killed by the Niners QB if they are not extremely disciplined. This one will be fun to watch.

I know there are no moral victories. Playing a tight game on the road and losing to the Niners would prove the Panthers are for real. But they need a win to keep pressure on the Saints for the NFC South crown. They need the road win - bottom line.

Panthers brought in Hangartner and he passed his physical so they have him slated to help bolster the Offensive line. Glad to have him back.

Sometimes you just have signs that it will be a bad day. Panthers down 3-0 and forced a punt. It was partially blocked, but it bounced into a Panther who tried to grab it and the Niners recover. Just a bad sign things may not go your way.

Panthers down 6-0 with the ball just over mid field in Niner territory. Delay of game and then a very poor pass for an INT by Cam and the Niners have the ball in the red zone. Defense needs to try and force another FG.

Panthers force a fumble on a pass but refs call it incomplete. Panthers trying to challenge. Did not reverse the call. 4th and 1 at ther Panther 2 and Niners go for it. Nope. Tried to get them offsides. Go for the FG and now lead 9-0 with 6 minutes to go in the half.

Panthers will a great drive and Williams with an terrific 29 yard TD run. Panthers trail 9-7 with under 2 to go in half. Defense has to hold and not give up cheap points.

STeve Smith dropped a first down catch to keep drive alive in Niner territory and we had to punt. Smith just blew that and he knows it.

Tolbert with a monster run and he just flattened Reid and he is out of the game. Gano missed from 48 yards, first miss of the year.

Ginn returns punt into Niner territory. Panthers MUST score on this possession and let the defense continue to shut down a great Niner team.

Gano from 53 and Panthers lead 10-9 with over half the 4th qtr to play. Defense has to continue to step up. Panthers have played well enough to win so far. They have outplayed the Niners so far.

If Panthers can get a first, the game will be over. Otherwise, they will give the Niners the ball again with about 2 minutes to play. First Down to Smith!!!! Now if they have to punt, it will be under 30 seconds. Huge!!!

Punt to the Niners who have the ball at the 20 with 1:02 left. They need only a FG.

I don't have internet at home, so that is my excuse.

Anyways....

This was a great win for us, and even though I love blowouts, in winning it the way we did no-one can say that we won it by a fluke or such. We simply out played, out-muscled, and out-lasted one of the premier teams in the NFL. I'm not a huge fan of super conservative offenses, but I can't help but acknowledge how dangerous we are when we run as a team. And, to be fair, we have all the weapons to do it. I can't imagine having to gameplan against Newton, Stewart, Williams, and Tolbert solely from a Run defense perspective.... I can't wait till Cam gets some more weapons to throw too, because its pretty clear to me that Smitty just isn't the same player he used to be, and that we really do need some fresh WR talent for Cam to slip the ball to.
