One other note. If Emery sees Lovie leaving soon, we're sure to see the death of the 4-3 & the cover 2. This pick works in that situation.
Subtle message to Lovie then, perhaps. Or, Emery just grades him differently.
Lots of comparisons to only white guys: Matthews, Vrabel, Armstrong. Obviously white guys are viewed as less athletic. But, McClellin's measurables are pretty impressive. LINK
For all the ends that have gone thus far, McClellin has:
- 2nd fastest 40 time
- 3rd fastest 3 cone drill time
- 3rd fastest shuttle time
- 4th longest broad jump
His downfalls from a measurables standpoint is the vertical jump and the bench reps. But of all these measurables, the easiest thing to improve is the bench reps (strength).
Cliff Levingston will reserve judgment until we see this guy play. How many times have we been excited to draft player X and watch him bust, or been disappointed with player Y only to see him kick ass? Again, McClellin will offer the coaching staff some nice versatility. We do like to drop our ends into coverage from time to time, so with Peppers and McClellin, we've got two guys that can cover quite well considering.
