Bostic: flashes the ability to be a star. Overran the lanes consistently, is that a coaching problem? I think so because others did this a lot as well, just not as often as Bostic.

Jones: emerged as our best linebacker this year. Has a bright future.

Briggs: looked like a defensive tackle. Done.

McClellin: looked lost most of the time. However, when. We was sent to rush the passer, sit in a spy, or covered the flat, he looked pretty good. Definitely not comfortable covering the field or reading rush lanes. Best fit for a 3-4 OLB pass rushing role.

Sharpton - filled in well and played well on special teams. Definitely a guy to consider keeping around for depth.

Combining two positions in my response, but...

I think we need a complete housecleaning of both the safety and the linebacker spot. I don't think any of the safeties need to come back. Conte's not bad if he's about the 11th best starter on your team and your other safety is really good, but he gets hurt constantly. The rest of the guys are 5th safeties on a real team at best.

I'd hang onto Bostic and Jones and see if either of them can play. At this point you don't have much evidence that they can, just bits of flashes of potential. A lot of it had to be coaching, but as a group they were constantly out of position, showed poor instincts and fundamentals. The entire group needs a rebuild.

I definitely want to draft a MLB early to be the leader of our defense. I wouldn't be opposed to drafting another LB late and letting him battle it out with Bostic and Jones for one of the other two spots.

Which of our free agents would you like to see back in a Bears uniform?

Coaching:
HC: Teryl Austin. Has had success where ever he has coached.

Defensive Coaching; I don't think this side of coaching needs to be talked about unless Austin wants to bring in a DC to call the plays. Austin has been in the NFL for a long time so I'm sure he knows who can coach.

Offensive Coaching: Being a defensive guy, I'm sure Austin would want to bring on a run first OC. First, I would try to convince Bevell if he can make the Bears offense into a competent on then he'll be the first HC hired the following season, however, very unlikely. Second, Tom Cable. I believe is the only person to coach the Raiders into a non-losing season since they were in the SB and that was with possibly the worst Raiders teams of all time and JaMarcus Russel at QB. He's also one of the best o-line coaches in the NFL. He's a high intensity and run first guy, so the complete opposite of Trestman. Idk who else could be a OC candidate but i'm sure they are more realist than my suggestions.

Re-signings
Brings and Tilman; With a veteran defensive coach as Austin, I'm sure he would want to resign some respected veteran "leaders". I say we could get both of the from 2-3 mil.
Trevor Scott
Brian De La Puente
Eben Britton
Darryl Sharpton
Christopher Conte
Jeremy Cain
Dante Rosario

Free Agents
Ndamukong Suh: With the hiring of Austin, I think we would become the favorite to sign Suh.

Devin McCourty: With the re-signing of Tilman, Jennings will most likely be our nickle, so that would make S a bigger need. McCourty is the best available S and a top S overall.

Cecil Shorts: Speed slot guy that we really need.

*****Hiring Austin could give us a shot at signing DeAndre Levy next off-season, who with out a question was the best LB in the NFL and it is completely mind blowing he didn't make the pro-bowl.

Draft
With all the picks the browns got from the Bills in the Watkins trade, there is now way I accept an extra 2nd rounder. Since I think the two teams would agree that the value is fair I don't think the browns would accept the 7th for their two 1st, but since none of this is that realistic lets assume they do agree to the trade.

RD 1A: Shaq Thompson OLB
RD 1B: Trae Waynes, CB
RD 2: Brent Hundley, QB
RD 3: Derron Smith, S
RD 4: Henry Anderson, DE/DT
RD 5: A.J Johnson, ILB
RD 6: Rob Havenstein, OT
RD 7: Ishaq Williams, DE (He was a 3-4 OLB and suspended his last season so he might go back to college)

Undrafted FA: Noah Spence/DE, Josh Shaw/CB/S, and Andre Debose/WR

With the hiring of Fangio, I wouldn't be surprised if we went hard after Dan Skuta and Michael Wilhoite. They both played well when the 49ers needed them to step in when someone got injured. I also think Gase will bring up Virgil Green as a good back up TE.

According to over the cap.com the bears have 27,644,395 in cap. Obviously that will change will re-signings and cuts.

First is my list of guys I think will be cut.
1. Shea McClellin
2. Jay Ratliff
***I was never a fan of Bushrod so I wouldn't mind to see him go but I doubt that happens. If something does happen I think he'll be moved to RT (where he would excel) and replaced with another LT. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Martellus Bennett since he seems to be an a-hole at time.

Second, the re-signings that I think will happen.
1. Lance Briggs
2. Charles Tilman
3. Brian De La Puente
4. Stephen Paea
5. Trevor Scott
6. Jeremy Cain
7. Zach Miller

Free agents I think and/or I would like to see the Bears go after
1. Jake Locker
2. Ryan Mallett
3. Colt McCoy
4. Torrey Smith
5. Eddie Royal
6. Andre Holmes
7. Cecil Shorts
8. Jordan Cameron (if Bennett is cut)
9. Jermaine Gresham (if Bennett is cut)
10. Charles Clay (if Bennett is cut)
11. Virgil Green
12. Owen Daniels
13. Lance Kendricks
14. Brian Orakpo
15. Ndamukong Suh
16. Terrance Knighton
17. Justin Houston
18. Akeem Ayers
19. Brooks Reed
20. Kareem Jackson
21. darrelle revis
22. Devin McCourty
23. Tashaun Gipson
24. Will Hill
25. Dan Skuta
26. Michael Wilhoite

Final signings
Colt McCoy
Eddie Royal
Virgil Green
Terrance Knighton

When I look at Saints cap issues--they might have to cut some guys that are good--and our GM should know who to pick up
:D

I'm also wondering about Forte--i mean from my read on overthecap he's a 8.2M cap savings and only 1M dead money if you cut him....
Seeing as even if we keep him next year I doubt he's there in future--maybe now is the time to get someone newer/younger/cheaper and use that money to fill the other numerous holes.

He's a great player but you can cut him and pay Lynch/Murray if you are spending in that ballpark. Or likely get 2 cheaper backs to run the likely zone block running game.

If the rumors that the Broncos don't want Manning to come back the bears could easily be considered to be the favorites to get him, Fox and Gase being the obvious reasons why. I think the likely contract would be 2yrs/40mil. If we do sign Manning we'd obviously trade Cutler. Some teams that I think will try to trade for him will be the Titans, Redskins, Jets, Rams, Browns, Texans, Eagles, and Cardinals. Since this is mostly fantasy I'll go with Cutler for both of the Browns firsts. I think we'd have to eat 5 mil of cutler's contract, so with the manning signing, we will be hurting for cash but it will be worth it.

Free agents
Manning
Tashaun Gipson
Terrance Knighton
Brooks Reed

Draft:
RD 1A: Dante Fowler, OLB (Randy Gregory if he's there)
RD 1B: Alvin Dupree, OLB
RD 1C: Trae Waynes, CB
RD 2: Jordan Phillips, NT
RD 3: Cameron Erving, OT
RD 4: Tyler Lockett, WR
RD 5: Paul Dawson, ILB
RD 6: Max Garcia, C
RD 7: Taylor Kelly, QB

I doubt its that since Fox is a defensive guy. What i heard is that Fox and Elway hated each other

Bush cut, Hawk cut (as said above). A lot of cap casualties. Don't know if I can ever forgive Bush for his dive-roll TD in playoffs but I'd take him on cheap.

I think we'll keep De la Puente. Pace helped bring him in to New Orleans and he can replace Garza

The Marshall trade saddens me greatly. He was my favorite player behind Urlacher even before he was a bear. If we dont get rid of cut me now ill be extremely pissed.

If we get rid of Marshall and cutler without taking any salary back how much cap do we have?

Reports say we've signed DE Ray McDonald and Jervis Jenkins. On the DL we now have

Mcdonald, Jenkins, Ferguson, Sutton, Ratliff, and possibly Houston and Washington.

At LB we have:
McPhee, Bostic, Jones, McClellin, Greene, Young, Allen and possibly Houston and Washington. Also still rumors about us signing Mason Foster.

Log jams at DE at OLB. Look for a lot of cuts boys!
