If we sign cribbs i'll be so stoked, not only does our ST get a instant impact player, cribbs is also a vertical threat. his hands aren't quite there yet, but he's a lot more experienced than Fuller

Cribbs signed with the Raiders, which is interesting as he was bs'ing about wanting to join a team that was that one piece away. Raiders are a franchise away.

In hindsight, signing a 30 year old ST guys might not have been our best move, especially with the options we have

Yes to that, and I honestly think the Lions should consider Charles Woodson just for his presence among all the young guys.

We signed Jake Scott and Michael Spurlock

Apparently Tulluoch and Scott have a bad history, which won't play a part but just FYI.

Cedric Ellis also visited us, but no word on a contract. The name Cedric Ellis sounds familar but i can't pin point why. was there any off the field issues with him? i know he reportedly bench press 500lbs and did 42 reps of 225lbs

Not to sure what to make of any of these recent signings.....they all seem to be minor additions who will have to fight to make the final 53-man roster.

Competition and depth. Contenders have both these things.

Ya, i don't recall what article i read , i believe it was on DFP, but they also said the more depth the better not to mention veteran presence and mentoring always helps young squad

Scott, Harris, Nagy, and Gandy are all fighting for the exact same roster spot, the veteran backup G/C. My money is on Harris if he's healthy.

None of the $$ is guaranteed so these guys are simply on tryouts. Schwartz has familiarity with all of them.

The recent signee that is definitely going to stick is Montell Owens. More $$ than expected over 2 years. He essentially takes the Kassim Osgood roster spot, will be #4 RB/# 2 FB for an offense that never uses a fullback.

Who's the #1 FB? Whoever is is, they should just be cut, as Owens is a special team's stud....and like you said, we never use a FB within our offense.

What about OG/C Austin? You didn't mention him. Is that because he's not a vet? I really liked what I heard about him last season and thought he had a chance at starting this year before all the new signings.

Top FB right now is Shaun Chapas. I don't expect him to make the team though. The Lions didn't even rate FBs in the draft, had not a one on their board.

Austin has a year or practice squad eligibility left and I get the impression the Lions are optimistic they can stash him there. They definitely like him but would prefer to go with a veteran because of having new starters at both tackle spots. From what I've seen of Rodney Austin he's better than the Leroy Harris or Jake Scott of the last couple of seasons, and the Lions own coaches tipped that they preferred him over Gandy when they signed him to the futures contract. He's still very much in the mix but more long-term than short.

Seeing the Lions linked with OT Winston Justice for our RT spot. Any way we can pull off signing him? How would we create enough cap space to do so? Or should we even try -- do the FO/coaches think we're set at RT?

Chris Hope signed. Backup S I assume. Spievey's spot in trouble?

Could be but one person I greatly respect believes this is all about Delmas not being healthy yet. I kind of agree with that but I also think this is about Schwartz wanting to send messages against complacency, no roster spot is safe. Lots of teams going with the Pete Carroll style like this.

Hope gets the Erik Coleman role. I can't see Hope making the team if Delmas is healthy because he doesn't play ST.

We signed DE/DT Odonija (spelling is prob way off) today to a 1-year deal.

Solid pickup.

Worried that we keep neglecting to address our WR or RT spots....

Another guy I'd like the Lions to kick the tires on: WR Laurent Robinson. Would be an ideal guy to put opposite CJ if he checks out medically.
