Yeah, I've heard O'Brien is mobile. I'm not saying in an ideal case that he can't be Wilson, but I'm not expecting it.

Are you inferring Wilson was a RB playing QB?

I was making a general refernce to O'brien's athleticism/mobility.....I get the feeling many people think he is as unathletic as tolzein was and he isn't, he moves in the pocket well.....just not a run first type QB that Maryland moved to with their awfil offensive coordinator last season.

We made the Rose Bowl in 2010 with solid passing, great rushing, and solid defense.

We made the Rose Bowl in 2011 with great passing, great rushing, and poor defense (when it mattered).

No kidding

Tolzien in 2010 16/6 TD/INT ratio

Wilson 33/4

That's like comparing a good running Ford Taurus with a BMW.

I have some high hopes for O'Brien, but the odds of him ever being as good as Wilson for the Badgers is microscopic and that's being kind. In fact, the program may never have a QB again that is as effective as Wilson was last year.

Transitioning from NC State to Wisconsin:

Wilson's

CMP% went up 14.4%
Y/A went up 3.5
TDs went up 5
INTs dropped by 10
His QB Rating went up 64.3

If O'Brien has an identical upgrade (from his last healthy year).

He's looking at:

71.4 CMP%, 10.7 Y/A, 27 TDs, -2 INTs, 198.5 QB Rating

Wilson vs. O'Brian pre-Bucky

CMP%: 58.4 vs. 57
Y/A: 6.8 vs. 7.2
TDs: 28 vs. 22
INTs: 14 vs. 8
QB Rating: 127.5 vs. 134.5

So you're saying that O'Brien will be top 5 in the nation in passing efficiency?

You'll note I said he can be.

It wouldn't stun me if he is top 5.

Silly gopher fan :P . The only reason we were open to a QB transferring in is because Budmayr might be done for his career. His injury is quite severe.

We have two healthy QBs right now, one of which is a walk on who has never seen the field. This was a huge get.O'Brien was fantastic in a pro style offense during his freshman year.

Actually not one and done, O'Brien has two years of eligibility left.

If you want to feel bad for someone about this, it would be Bart Houston if he develops quickly after recovering from surgery on his shoulder. That surgery combined with him being a true freshman would likely have killed any chance for him to start in his first season anyways, but if O'Brien does well this coming season, Houston would have little to no shot of winning the starting job the following year over a senior, even if he looks good in camp.

One other bright spot that could come from this for the program at least would be for Houston to be able to redshirt this year and then be the backup in 2013 where he gets some random playing time. Then in 2014, he takes over the starting QB job as a redshirt sophomore with a complete grasp of the whole offense.

Yeah, I realized he wasn't a one and done after I made my initial post.

I think it is going to be fun to follow Bart Houston and Philip Nelson. They are both highly touted QB recruits and played in the same all-star game. Now that UW has O'Brien, Nelson may become a starter sooner but I see them both starting by the 2014 season.

Not sure what i'm less surprised about:

Meyer cheating, or Bielema screwing up a high profile recruit and then whining about it.

Not excited about the whole situation, but at least there is some substance and it makes Bielema look less dumb with his complaining.
