Looks like he throws a pretty nice ball with some zip from the Shrine game footage.

Green Bay -- He didn't know it at the time. But Brett Favre -- yes, Brett Favre -- was lending a hand to his old team. He was grooming a future Green Bay Packers quarterback. Through parts of January and February, Favre worked out with Tennessee-Chattanooga's B.J. Coleman in Hattiesburg, Miss.

On Sunday, Green Bay drafted Coleman in the seventh round of the NFL Draft to compete for a back-up spot behind Aaron Rodgers. You know, the guy who replaced Favre amid one of the messiest divorces in sports history. Coleman called Favre an "awesome legend" that he learned plenty from.

The two worked on reading coverages, footwork on drops and much more. Coleman says he learned something new from Favre "every second."

"It’s just endless," said Coleman, who shares the same agent as Favre in Bus Cook. "He’s one of the best. He’ll go down as one of the greatest. To have the opportunity to speak with him and work with him was excellent."

Now if he can just unlearn some of that to clean the slate for Rodgers...

Pretty much

Though as scary as it sounds, Favre's mechanics were better than Coleman's are right now. :(

From my QB Big Board, Coleman was #10:

Well-built Tennessee transfer that stepped up his game as a senior before getting hurt. If he were a college basketball player he would be a Dukie that opposing fans love to hate, has that hard-nosed mentality and wears his high football IQ and scrappiness on his sleeve. Strong arm with a quick, high release that produces great velocity. Can buy time for himself and reset quickly in the pocket. Accustomed to making throws under pressure and in traffic. Can really rifle the ball down the field, very rarely underthrows deeper routes. Has some ability to run but takes a few steps to really get moving. Biggest issue is accuracy, just a 57% passer at the FCS level and it comes from a lack of touch more than the ball being off-line. Throws the ball as hard as he can no matter the distance of the throw, except when he overcompensates and floats it. Has a stiffness to his body when he throws, as if he is bracing for the hit even when no pressure is present. Doesn't always throw from his toes, can be flat-footed. Not good at throwing on the move; poor balance, all shoulder torque. Natural born leader and willing learner who lit up Shrine Game week with those attributes. Has a higher ceiling than some of the guys above him but needs a lot of work to get there. Reminds me of Matt Moore or Kyle Orton, guys that can start for many teams but always leaves them wanting someone a little better. Coleman needs at least a year of development to get to that point. Will be a 4th/5th round pick.

I saw three of his game tapes and had some input from a regional scout that saw every game.

He was the 10th QB off the board, so kudos. Thanks for the link.

On any given game week, Coleman estimates he spent 35 hours studying film. Sundays immediately after each game. Mondays on the team's "day off." He sought an edge, the same edge that made Manning special.

Watch any highlight of Coleman and there are eerie parallels. The manic pre-snap command of a play. The single-arm, quick-retreat play-action fake. The quick, choppy dropback.

"If you put B.J. in a Colts uniform or a Bronco uniform now and put him about 80 yards away from where all the media was standing, you'd think it was Peyton Manning," Satterfield said. "Now, he hasn't won a game yet. He's not anywhere close to where Peyton is. But just the way he moves his body with his play-action fakes and his throwing motion, everything looks just like Peyton Manning.

I just wish everyone could enjoy the ride. I see both sides believe me. Seed and situation never concern me. It's in or out. That's all

He can look like Manning all he wants, he has to complete more than 57% of his throws. ;)

It's awesome to hear that he loves to study and put in work though.

He can clean up his accuracy as he cleans up his mechanics... but it's too optimistic for me to consider that he has even a tiny chance of becoming Peyton Manning. Eli... perhaps.
