We're sitting with about 20 million in cap space.

About 6 of that will go to the Draft Picks.

Assuming Shields gets a 1st round tender that's 3 million. EDS will most likely get a 2nd round tender for 2 million.

Don't think anybody else (including Crabtree) gets one. So we'd be at about 9 million.

Newz wrote:Have we created enough money to extend/tag/resign all of Rodgers, Matthews, Raji and Shields?

If so, would there be enough room left to go after a free agent if we wanted?

No idea. Everything is dependent on the type of extension. I could see Matthews getting every dime that's left over from this year as the first year of his new deal totally guaranteed. That would save us money in future years.

Because Raji was a high pick in the era of inflated rookie contracts, he's already getting a pretty good wage. I could see us bumping Raji up from 5-7 this year and bumping Matthews from 1 to 8 with the rest. Because they're not FAs, they're still under contract and are technically restructures/resignings, it gives us a lot of wiggle room.

One thing I think is extremely likely is that if Finley isn't cut, and I don't think he will be, that part of his extension is lessening his cap hit this year. Instead of having 1/8 he'd get something like 5/27.5. That saves us 2.5 million that would probably be the raise that Raji will need. Could then use some of that money to give Rodgers a nice little raise.

PG says we're at $20mil b4 our 5 RFA tenders
http://www.packersnews.com/article/2013 ... -5-million

If Shields gets 1st rd tender & EDS a 2nd rd tender = $4.8mil
plus change for crabtree Zombo & Francois who may get lowest tender or none

The $15mil left should cover pay increases for Rodgers $10mil & Matthews $5mil
Hopefully they still whack Hawk - to cover Raji's hike & then have a little FA $ to play with

Yes thank you. What's our slot's alloted amount? around $4mil? All the more reason to whack Hawk.
I mentioned extending Finley to reduce cap nbr a while back but that was just me. Haven't heard anything official. Have you? I think Pack want one more year to evaluate finly b4 making next contract offfer and are willing to pay him his current deal.

Anywhere from 7-9 most likely. Problem with cutting Hawk is that it doesn't save much. You pay him 4.8 to leave. He's only making 7 this year.

Cut him you only save 2 mil then you got to find another SILB. Draft pick will be around 800,000 and that's the cheapest option available and will be a downgrade. A guy that will bring it at the same level as Hawk is gonna cost you more than 2 mil in the open market.

I don't think I'd just cut Hawk since it only saves us like 2 million. I would trade him for any pick offered though.

Hate to tell you this man. We trade Hawk, we pay the 4.8. Bonus money goes on our cap this year.

Yep, we need to steal the Toronto Raptors, "Andrea Bargnani: I'll be here forever" sig and change it for Hawk

Jones comes across as a great guy! Humble etc. He's always been looked at as a "not quite got it" guy - in draft, in Pro's - his league leading TDs, incredible catches & only 2 or 3 drops were not praised enuff imo. When asked he humbly states he thinks he's #1 material - If DD did it so can JJ - I'm excited that all 4 of our receivers - Jones finley cobb & nelson all seem ripe to explode!

Draft a WR in 3rd & have Quarless back healthy & we're good to go

There quite honestly should be a cap relief exception for donkey-ball-sucking related cuts named after AJ Hawk. The Hawk exception is fairly catchy sounding as well, I think a proposal directly to Goodell is well in order here...

Yep. Shouldn't be all about cap hits and stuff for players that suck and need to go away.

Could Daryl Smith play ILB in a 3-4? If so I wonder how much he'd cost?

But it frees up all that space next year. That money can be shifted around so easily in contract negotiations, I don't think it makes sense to look at it in terms of how it affects strictly this year's cap.

No, trading a guy is equivalent to cutting him. Every dime of Hawk's signing bonus would be accelerated onto the cap. That's not negotiable.

In the sense of, we can only spend 122 million dollars this year. That's exactly how you have to look at it. I don't see any scenario where it's an efficient use of resources to cut Hawk.

1. He doesn't suck donkey balls. There are 32 teams in the league that would want Hawk for a percentage of his contract. Yes Hawk, is slightly overpaid, he's an average player, nothing better, nothing worse.

2. Why does Hawk need to go away? He's nothing if not a good locker room guy and solid citizen. He takes nothing away from the team other than his contract.
