For the price we got him it always made sense.

So far Rodgers career here for me will be one of the longest stretches for the most injured team in NFL history. A team of what ifs. I'll always thik what if this team has normal injury's and we had a normal team every season.

Still time to change that thankfully.

A few random questions:

1. Since he medically retired, does he get paid out the rest of his contract via some sort of insurance from the team?
2. Would a guy like him have his own insurance policy like Finley where he gets 5-10 million in losses if he can't play anymore?
3. I'm assuming the NFL pays his medical bills for a while/rest of his life?
4. Do we have any word on if its a Collins-type thing where he can live a fairly normal life except is a danger if he plays football?

I am not sure, but I think he gets a percentage of the money that he was owed that is covered by some sort of insurance. I also think you pretty much automatically get enrolled in their pension system, so he'll likely have that now for the remainder of his life.

2. Would a guy like him have his own insurance policy like Finley where he gets 5-10 million in losses if he can't play anymore?

That's all on him. He might not have been able to get $5-$10 million in insurance because whoever gives him the insurance probably couldn't justify his career being worth as much as Finleys. But I bet he could have got insurance for a couple of million.

3. I'm assuming the NFL pays his medical bills for a while/rest of his life?

I'm pretty sure that they offer some kind of health insurance after guys retire now.

4. Do we have any word on if its a Collins-type thing where he can live a fairly normal life except is a danger if he plays football?

From everything I read he seems fine. When Wilde interviewed him it sounded like Wilde thought he was going to be back to playing within no time. So I don't see any reason why it would have a major impact on his life... unless there are some sort of long-term effects. Maybe more soreness in that area or something. I don't think he's losing use of his limbs or anything like that though.

Regarding 2, yeah, I just threw a number out there. I had assumed the insurance company (for now at least) would have valued him as less than Finley, however, he theoretically had more years to earn money, so I figured maybe it would have been a bit closer.

And, previous to that we lost a very very promising young WR in Terrence Murphy. It's just so unfortunate and, at the same time, it's the nature of a game where you wear heavily padded helmets.

Jeremy Thompson also was forced to retire due to a neck injury.

You could probably add Jolly to this list too.

Sterling Sharpe wasn't recent, but he was pretty good too.

Just an incredible list of woe.

Really have to wonder how that compares to other teams, and why so many.

I think the Packers have moved on from Jolly and Pickett.

Is anyone else just super fired up about the Packers this year?

On offense, assuming we stay healthy, we look unstoppable. Our offensive line looks tight with Bulaga returning - tons of talent at WR and RB, some question at TE but there's a ton of upside there.

Same thing for me on defense. I'm real excited to see what Peppers has left in the tank, but we should improve just simply by giving our young dlinemen another year in the weight room, and having Casey Hayward back at full strength.

Just a few more weeks!

Yes. If I knew we were going to stay healthy, I'd throw a bunch of money on us to win the Super Bowl. I really like the team we have this year.

I have $100 down on us to win the SB at 10-1. I also threw down $50 on the Crew to win the WS at 70-1.

This is the deadest time of the year in football. Between OTA's and training camp. Can't wait for camp to open.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
