Look at the onside free kick recovered by the Lions.

That should have been it.

Coaches don't miss tackles or commit penalties but when the other team watches tape and sees that they can easily exploit Brad Jones to the point that they would only run the fake if Jones was on the field and our coach watches the same tape and doesn't see it means It's time for a change.

This brings me back to the days I started posting fake rumors on packer chatters - everyone thought I was an insider because what I was saying was going to happen made total sense.

Like Shawn Slocum getting fired a week after a game that cost us the Super Bowl.

Scapegoat or not, Slocum should've been a long time ago and our special teams hasn't been special at anytime under his coaching.

I mean:

These, plus the 6 blocked kicks. He's had the worst year a Special Teams coach could ever have.

Man if House plays that FG attempt like Bush does on the opposite side, that thing is Blown up. Ryan is getting pummeled.

It's not just about 1 **** Onside kick, it's the repeated **** of special teams. Buffalo the special teams return was the difference in the game as well.

How many people had a sick feeling at some point in the season (all this **** special teams play could come back to haunt us)?

And FOR YEARS Slocum used the ole "We've had so many injuries, backups who normally play special teams have had to move up to starters and that shift has caused some inconsistencies. BLAH BLAH BLAH."

And I used to fall for that excuse every year. BUT THIS WAS THE HEALTHIEST SQUAD OF THE DECADE and the STs were worse then ever!

Slocum needs to go.

Yeah he's a "scapegoat" but his firing is a long time coming. IF it happens.

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/289585341.html

The annual National Football League special-teams rankings were released Friday by The Dallas Morning News and the Green Bay Packers were right where they didn't want to be. Green Bay finished last among the 32 teams with 450 points, just ahead of Carolina.

The Packers also were 32nd in 2005, their final season under coach Mike Sherman, and in 2006, coach Mike McCarthy's first year. They tied for seventh in 2007, the high-water mark for McCarthy, before slipping back to 26th in 2008.

At that point, McCarthy pressured coordinator Mike Stock into retiring and promoted Shawn Slocum, who had been on McCarthy's original staff for three seasons as Stock's assistant.

Under Slocum, the Packers struggled mightily to finishes of 31st in 2009 and 29th in 2010. There was substantial improvement in 2011 (tied for 13th), in 2012 (12th) and 2013 (19th) before it all fell apart this season.

I really don't know how you improve special teams if the players are terrible at special teams to begin with. They can practice special teams more but that just takes away from practicing offense and defense. Maybe players aren't held accountable enough? :dontknow: Either way the Pack got to the NFC Championship game in spite of the worst ST they've had maybe ever. Maybe MM had too much influence on ST when he should have minded his offense.

You don't, but it's not something they pay you millions to do. If you are someone who gets paid millions of dollars to do this you should at least figure out creative ways for your special teams to win games. There are three parts of the game and our special teams made some terrible plays in crucial parts of games this year.

The punt return in Buffalo lead to us playing in Seattle where they got a fake field goal and an onside kick recovery. Special teams makes any one of those plays and we are here.

Isn't it normally the excuse of special teams injuries? Seemed like we were relatively healthy this year for special teams eligible players and we still sucked.

It's a good thing for Slocum that the NFL moved kickoffs up 5 yards, or else he would look even worse. That single move bought him a few years.

This should of been the packers best year in special team. The team had the least injuries in recent memory, allowing Slocum some continuity.

Exactly. No execuses but it was the worst ever. Buffalo game, blocks every week and playoff gaffes. Worst special teams ever.

Sweet, now address the ILB issue and maybe Rodgers wouldn't need an MVP season for us to have a legit shot.

I don't think we can really call him a scapegoat when his performance dictated that he should have already been fired. The timing just makes him look like one.
