I don't have an issue with running the ball, it's the actual play call there. Made no sense having them line up like that and Smith running lateral to give him the ball.

Yeah, Phil, Manning probably was happier than that time he won the Super Bowl.

That had nothing to do with why Charles fumbled. He simply got stripped as he was falling to the ground.
This stuff happens in sports all of the time where a team looks in serious trouble late a game and instead they end of winning for a variety of different reasons.
Reid probably should have just taken a knee, but in that same spot, i think a number of other coaches would have also handed it off to Charles.

Why would you take a knee? Charles could have fumbled in OT just as easily.

Re: Around the NFL - Week 1 & 2
In OT there wouldn't just be 30 seconds left on the clock.
That said, other coaches often try a run in a situation like that. If the run breaks for say 10-15 yards because the defense is likely expecting pass, then try to hurry up. If the run goes nowhere, shut it down for OT.

How many teams have screwed up games in the last seconds or OT this year? Seems like a lot already.

Ya, I think you try one play out to see if it goes anywhere. If they get a nice chunk, they can run 2 plays and try and kick a long FG. I only saw the highlights so I didn't see if they had an TO's or anything, but even if not, there's time for one run and maybe 1 pass and a possible FG try.
But regardless, you have to expect your player knows the importance of the situation, two hands on the ball. Didn't see him with 2 hands on the ball.

This may have been one Rodgers greatest game winning drives ever (although the Dolphins drive last year was pretty amazing too). Tied against the giants with 58 seconds left and only 1 TO back at their own 20 yard line. Rodgers within 14 seconds had the Packers at the Giants 29 yard line. There was still 44 seconds left and a TO when they ran two more plays to make it more of a chip shot FG to win it before OT started.
That 2011 team didn't take knees with time still left in a tie game.
Not trying to say the Chiefs should try to be the 2011 Packers, but rather, 36 seconds is enough time to try a play or two and possibly kick a game winning FG. There's other QBs that have been able to get a chunk of 40-50 yards within 30 seconds.

Yeah but it's a know your personnel type thing. You have a QB that pretty much refuses to throw to his receivers. Chances are you aren't going to get a big gain from your TEs. And if you really did want to drive to score in 35 seconds needing 40 yards at minimum but more realistically probably 45 yards for a decent shot you wouldn't have led off the drive with a dive up the middle.

Agreed. Yet I've seen coaches run against a prevent and gain 15 yards and then it opens the field for 1 or 2 quick plays.

LOL. Cardinals take the opening kickoff 108 yards.

Watching the Cardinals defense swarm to the ball and make solid tackles makes me sad.

Yeah, maybe it wasn't the Packers D. The Bears' offense actually looks competent for the first time under Cutler.
