Draft Ideas

Post#1 » by Heatfansince04 » Fri Jan 14, 2011 2:21 am

Who do you all think we should target in the Draft?

First Round - I think we should target some help on the offensive line
Second Round - I think we should draft Randall Cobb. He is a versatile player who could help us in the passing game, running game, and kick/punt returns. He could also be used in some trick plays, such as RB/WR pass, since he played some QB in college. This would be kind of how the Steelers are using Randle El.
Rest of Draft - Help on BOTH lines and DEFENSE.

Hey HeatsFan(LOL, I guess we can put aside the fact that you're a Heats fan and I'm a Bulls fan because we're Colts fans). Here's how I'd do the draft.

1st Rd: OT - There's really no question that this team needs to improve the tackle position with Diem being mediocre and Charlie Johnson being a FA and more suited for RT. Derek Sherrod or Carmini would be nice. If somehow Paea dropped at the DT position, I'd be intrigued to take him and put off the OT spot until Rd. 2 or you know that thing called free agency that Polian apparently doesn't know exists. And he better not take Mark Ingram here if he's available...not that I don't like him or anything, but the lines need serious fixing first.

2nd Rd: WR - I know, another skill position early in the draft, but take a good look at the WR position on this team. Wayne is getting old and has one year left on his contract, Collie has concussion issues, Garcon has catching issues, Blair White is slow, bad and needs to be kept on the practice squad and Gonzalez can't stay healthy. WR is a deep position in this draft and the Colts could grab a solid WR at this spot to potential take over if/when Wayne is done and if Collie has any more problems. Randall Cobb, as you mentioned, would be great as would Ronald Johnson. They'd both add some much need athleticism to the position.

3rd Rd: OG or C - Saturday is about done and Colts need an heir apparent at the position or a good run grating guard would suffice. DT could work here as well.

4th Rd: DT - If it hasn't been addressed yet. Preferably one that projects into becoming a balanced pass rushing run stopping tackle and not some one down specialist. Honestly, I'd like for Polian to address this need in FA, but that's never going to happen. If so, a WR or OG.

5th Rd: S - Need some safety depth with Bullitt health issues and impending FA, along with Sanders' issues with health and most likely becoming a cap casualty. No more Aaron Francisco and walk ons please.

6th & 7th Rds: Another OL and perhaps LB or CB. Never hurt to have more OL to work with and LB for depth reasons.

I think CB is set with Powers and Hayden starting and Tryon, Lacey and the guy we drafted last year in Kevin Thomas who was IR'd, as nicklebacks. LB core is partially set with Brackett, Angerer and Conner. Session is a FA, so we'll see if he stays but it doesn't matter to me if he goes or not. Don't need to address DE as Hughes needs to show if he can do something next year, DT needs help as always and I'd like Polian to get someone in FA to fix it. Muir and Johnson are FA's. OL needs a massive upgrade, QB is set, RB is up in the air with Addai being a FA. For the record, I would re-sign him at all costs. WR could use a new talent, TE is set and the Colts don't acknowledge the FB position. Vinatieri needs to be re-signed as well.
