The Indianapolis Colts and free agent linebacker Gary Brackett agreed on a five-year contract Friday, according to a league source. The deal is worth up to $33 million with $12 million guaranteed.

Retaining Brackett was Indy’s top offseason priority and the sides negotiated all through Thursday to get a deal done.

Brackett has spent his entire seven-year career with the Colts.

Really good news. Brackett is a guy that I think we can ill-afford to lose. It's nice to see the Colts splurging on a LB for once, and if you are going to do it, Brackett is the guy you keep. I really think he's the heart and soul of the Indy defense, and one of the best MLB's in all of football.

I also like this move. With all the changes we saw last season in the secondary, and the changes that are yet to come (Sanders and Jackson to be specific) it will be nice to have some veteran leadership in our linebacking core.
