week 6: vikings @ giants

Post#1 » by hermes » Thu Oct 17, 2013 1:21 pm

vikings (1-5) @ giants (0-6)

josh freeman gets the start, harrison smith is out with turf toe

here's hoping josh plays well because eli might have a field day with our secondary. although everyone keeps bringing up the good history we've had against eli

i'd be up for a shootout like the cowboys/broncos couple weeks ago

Manning can be so far on either side of the spectrum. If he's good, we're gonna lose. If he's bad, we could win big. If we lose this one, we'll probably end up winning 4 games or less on the season.

Its hard for me to think about playoffs anymore, the defense is too pathetic. I just want to see Freeman. Physically, he's the QB prototype. Keep the opposing D off balance with AP and intermediate and long passes down the field. Thats enough to keep me happy.

I can't see any quarterback playing at a high level with the way Musgrave runs the offense. The worst case scenario is that Freeman and Vikes actually play pretty well the rest of the season, and then Musgrave does not get fired and the Vikes and Freeman are terrible next season. Best case scenario is that Vikes continue to play horrible, we find a franchise quarterback in the first round of the draft, and then draft cornerbacks and linebackers till round 7.

I'm intrigued by Freeman. He may or may not be the answer but I'm looking forward to seeing if he can bring anything. If not, we tried, and we move on looking forward to the draft.

Welp nevermind. We suck in every way.

Locke's leg is going to come off in a few years if this continues.

Are we even confident enough to believe in Spielman to draft a quality QB? We need so much more on top of a new QB. This is going to take a few drafts and a few strong off-seasons to get this thing going again.

AP is going to waste his prime on a loser team like Barry Sanders did. Uncanny.

I don't think we need to be so defeatist. You can turn things around quick in the NFL, this team made the playoffs just last season. The one positive is that we might be in the position to draft a legitimate QB prospect this offseason.

I'm not sure I have faith in Spielman to make the right pick for our QB. If we get #1, Marcus Mariota most likely, but if we don't get him or Bridgewater, I'm not sure where he goes. There's a lot to choose from but I could see him picking from 5 QBs and picking the one dud while the other 4 pan out.

I do think with a new coaching staff we can turn it around. Lets just hope they can bring in a proven NFL caliber HC and better OC, DC, etc.

Bridgewater is the clear number 1, I think. Hundley and Mariota have all the tools, I'm not sure who I prefer of those two. I like Mettenberger as a later 1st round pick or 2nd round pick. It would probably be a bad pick, but I'd be secretly excited if we took Manziel.

I would like to believe we cannot go wrong with either Bridgewater, Mariota, Hundley, etc. Rick just needs to deliver and pick the best one.

I get that feel that Manziel is another elite college QB that won't match the same success at the next level. Maybe I'm wrong, I just get that impression. I'd take him over what we have currently.

Manziel is small, doesn't have the arm strength or pocket presence, but he does have incredible playmaking ability. I'm more intrigued by Manziel than someone like AJ McCarron.

i hope the young guys get more chances to prove some things the rest of the season, more patterson especially

figuring out what is wrong with the offensive line is also critical, and probably just need to get a whole new secondary at this point

We have 2 recent first round picks in the secondary, so I hope not.

Manziel is tough for me to figure out. I think his off field stuff isn't that bad at all, but he does show signs of hot-headedness and immaturity, and all the best QBs seem to be all about maturity and poise as a leader. He also forces throws, but his accuracy impresses me - throws seems like they're always right on the numbers.

I could see him being a major bust as a guy that can't figure out NFL defenses and throws too many picks, or as a guy that carves up defenses with short and intermediate passes and keeps plays alive with his feet.

It might come down to the coaching. Its hard for me to disregard all the things he does well, but there are definitely some risks.
