Chargers @ Raiders

Post#1 » by matt131 » Sat Oct 11, 2014 1:29 am

Oh man. My least favorite game of the year. Playing in that god-awful stadium in Oakland against what could be the most horrendous team in football, the Chargers will take on the Raiders in a matchup that actually scares me. The Chargers of old would lose this game by playing down to the talent of their opponent (in this case, zero talent). But hopefully McCoy in year two has figured out a way to prevent these Chargers from not taking every opponent seriously. Last year's loss to the Raiders in Oakland still haunts me. But if our recent play suggests anything, it is that we should win this game handedly. This game 'should' be viewed as a bye, one in which our starters can get healthy and our backups (Oliver!) can improve with in-game reps. I'm most looking forward to Oliver catching a screen pass against an undisciplined defense and scurrying down the field for a 40 yard gain and trucking a safety on his way into the end zone.

But I still hesitate to feel optimistic about this game. Rivers played well most of last season, but his game against the Raiders was just terrible. I hope for his sake and the sake of this team, we can absolutely annihilate the Raiders like we did the Jets. Our win against the Jets was so dominant, it seemed like we made them give up and quit. I want to see that same look on our hated rivals' faces. But we are going to need to play smart, clean, and disciplined football. No turnovers, no lapses on defense, and no silly penalties.

C'mon baby, BOLT UP!

I'm still worried every game that we will let up and blow a game...I guess it's just ingrained in our brains from being Chargers fans. But McCoy has kept the pedal to the medal so far when it comes to taking every game seriously.....which is quite an accomplishment since Rivers had seemed to kind of become a player who didn't take all the games equally seriously.

In my spread pools I almost always take home dogs just on principle, and SD is favored by 7.5 on the road. Originally I had the Raiders just because I could see it being close but the more I thought about it and having watched all the games, I decided I really can't see it being all that close at all.

Unless we have some serious miscues this shouldn't be too much of a test. But I guess saying all this kind of scares me.

Man, I always get to the sports bar like 5-10 minutes late and there is always a score. Today I was hoping there wouldn't be and both teams had already scored and of course nothing has happened since.

Yeah that's a little bold. They never would have done the against a better team which means they are overconfident...not gòod.

They better not be overconfident. they've let a rookie QB throw 2TDs on them and our offensive line looks like it couldn't block an incoming butterfly.

Yeah that really hurts...he had some great plays today. We need a sense of urgency. Oliver needs to break one.
