Oh the **** irony. Now Fangio is acceptable for D.C.!? they wouldn't let Gase keep him at D.C. and tried to force Tomsula. Hilarious.

And why in the hell would they even try to get Fangio after they spurned him and he's already under contract with Bears? Mind boggling. I guess they just felt like getting rejected.

Well here's how they are spinning it so far.

So I have noticed that Mike Florio (Pro Football Talk) has been very negative and siding with the everyone spurned us camp. When essentially the only ines who spurned us are McDaniels/Riddick and Caserio. Ballard got blocked and given a raise. Cable/Seattle saw the writing on the wall as did Wolf and he got a raise. Florio used to be roses for the 49ers. Makes me think Baalke was his guy and fed him info.

There's a belief that Fangio and other Bears assistants are starting to feel like their time is running out and their leash has become short so it's been speculated that some of them feel like they might be able to get a better deal and situation elsewhere if they could be let out.

That might have gotten picked up by 49ers officials and may have played a part in them trying. Obviously that doesn't explain all the other drama between Fangio and the 49ers and how that would still prevent him from even considering any offer.

“It’s been Gutekunst for two weeks,” said one source close to the 49ers’ search. “He killed that interview. The owner says he’s Scot McCloughan without the drinking problem.”

Really I think that's why ultimately why McDaniels bowed out is the 9ers really wanted Gutekunst and McDaniels wanted Riddick and the 9ers probably weren't enthralled with Riddick so both sides likely decided that they might not be the best match for each other.

In the event of Gutekunst’s departure, the Packers would lean even more heavily on Alonzo Highsmith, their senior personnel executive, and Jon-Eric Sullivan, their director of college scouting.

Highsmith to me sounds like a very smart individual. He's somebody to watch in that organization for the next couple years. They've got a machine (didn't say a great one) going for themselves well after TT departs, but Highsmith will be a guy to keep an eye on IMO.

Just wanted to acknowledge that I have seen this bit of news today. I would wonder if the Falcons won't allow ANY coaches to leave or if, in fact, it is just POSITION coaches (QBs, WRs, DBs, etc.) they don't plan to allow to leave.

If they aren't going to promote "offensive assistant" Mike McDaniel to Shanahan's spot, or to another spot, he would be a very intriguing add from that staff IMO if Kyle looks to them for options.

This was from McDaniel's time while in Cleveland when he was with Shanahan there. As far as small reads go, this is a pretty good one on him.

Another name I would throw out for people, but not one whom I'm particular big on (or against), is Packers TEs coach Brian Angelichio. He coached for a year with Shanahan in Cleveland (TEs coach) AND spent this year (first year) with Gutekunst in GB as their TEs coach. The fact he has ties to both guys makes him somebody to watch IMO.

(Fun fact: Angelichio coached former 49ers TE Nate Byham at Pittsburgh - his position coach).

Also, the secondary coach under Chip Kelly this year was Jeff Hafley. He coached for one year with Shanahan in Cleveland as DBs coach so it's possible he'll get consideration to come back as well. However, Shanahan has been tied to a bunch of guys who have DB experience so one would think there'll be plenty of candidates there (Bob Slowik could be one).

Bob Babich, who this last week signed with the Bills to be their LB coach, would have made for an intriguing hire for Shanahan IMO.

I'd be for Fangio coming back but would he want to return? Seems unlikely.

Then again, the Bears are a mess too.

Well Shanahan has been working for awhile so hopefully he has a better network to draw on than Tomsula or even Kelly.

But was it the front office reaching out to the Bears for Fangio? That makes you concerned that Shanahan doesn't know of any potential DCs.

One thing about Harbaugh, he brough a lot of key coaches over and then seems to have assembled a good staff at Michigan, to not only make that school a national power again but also a force in recruiting.

My guess it's Shanahan that reached out to Fangio and the 9ers front office tried to make it happen.

Shanahan isn't officially the coach of the 9ers so any staff moves he would want have to be made by the 9ers themselves or you run the risk of getting in trouble with the league.
