Why Jimmy Graham's patellar tendon injury has such an uncertain recovery
http://espn.go.com/blog/seattle-seahawks/post/_/id/20692/why-jimmy-grahams-patellar-tendon-injury-has-such-an-uncertain-recovery
"A study just published in June of this year in the American Journal of Sports Medicine looked at orthopedic procedures on over 550 NFL athletes," Bell said. "And of all the different surgeries that these guys have, those who fared the worst when it comes to rate of return to play and performance metrics like yards gained and touchdowns scored, [it was] patellar tendon repair.
"And their careers were shortened overall significantly. It's not to say that one individual can't come back and be phenomenal, but it's telling you that the odds are against them in terms of returning to form."

I certainly don't wish ill on the guy, but it wouldn't break my heart if he can't return to form.

That's a surprise. I would have liked him over Tartt in 2015. I'd certainly inquire if they're dangling him.

Anquan Boldin - WR - Lions
Lions agreed to terms with WR Anquan Boldin on a one-year contract.
Boldin visited the Lions last month. Boldin still had plenty left in the tank for the pathetic 49ers last season, catching 69 passes in 14 games as he dealt with bottom-three quarterback play. Still, going on 36, he's headed to the Lions as a No. 3 receiver. He'll cut into Golden Tate, Marvin Jones, and Eric Ebron's targets, but shouldn't destroy their fantasy value. As a standalone option, Boldin probably won't be more than a WR5. It's a big addition for a Lions team moving on from Calvin Johnson, but not a major fantasy event.

Re: Around the NFL Thread
He's probably more of a headache to deal with off the field than Aldon Smith:
Randy Gregory - DL - Cowboys
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports suspended Cowboys RE Randy Gregory has again violated the league's substance-abuse policy, and is facing a longer suspension.
ESPN's Ed Werder reported earlier Tuesday that Gregory was headed to drug treatment instead of Cowboys camp. Now we know why. It's a sadly unsurprising development for a player who entered the league with lots of questions about his off-the-field habits. It's probably best assumed that he won't see the field in 2016, which is devastating news for the Cowboys' wafer-thin front seven. Owner Jerry Jones could be getting awful tempted to give free agent Greg Hardy a call.

Randy Gregory - DL - Cowboys
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Cowboys RE Randy Gregory's new suspension is for 10 games "at least," and that there's concern he "may not play again."
It's unclear if that's 10 games on top of Gregory's current four-game ban, or 10 games overall. Gregory's substance-abuse struggles were known before he was even drafted, so it's fair to wonder if he's headed down a Manziel-ian path. The Cowboys shouldn't be counting on any snaps from Gregory this season.

Rams released Nick Foles.

Pretty sad the Rams released a QB who's better than anyone on the Niners by a significant margin.

I don't think we can say that until we've seen Gabbert and/or Kap in Kelly's offense. Foles had one great year, then fell off rapidly. And when he was away from Kelly, he was a disaster. Kelly has tended to have a pretty dramatic impact on his QBs' play, bumping both Foles and Sanchez way above their numbers when not under him. Bradford put up better raw numbers in 2013 than in 2015, but he also had the good fortune of playing against the 31st, 29th, 26th and 23rd passing Ds (by opponent rating) in his seven starts.

The #AZCardinals and Tyrann Mathieu have reached an agreement on a 5-year deal, source said. It's worth roughly $12M per year. Huge.
